The bianconeri led the Serie
A for most of the season, making great matches against Inter, Parma, Roma,
but playing not that great against the "little" teams. On the last and
decisive week, when the only result that didn't matter was the defeat (since
Lazio had won their match), Juve lost to Perugia, and Lazio got the Scudetto.
Juve finished 2nd on the table, and qualifyed for the Champions League.
Lazio seemed to be Juventus'
nightmare, as they eliminated the Turin squad from the Coppa Italia, on
the quarter finals.
As for the European competitions,
Juve first had to play the Intertoto Cup to get a place on the UEFA Cup.
Del Piero's comeback was actually in an Intertoto Cup match, and he ended
up in the scoresheet. Against Rennes, Juve won the Intertoto and went to
the UEFA Cup. But, another team with the light blue uniform was in Juventus'
way: Celta Vigo, who got Juventus away from Europe for the season.
