Our Firehouse Allenport Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1926 and was chartered in 1928. The department's first fire station was located at one end of the old borough building which has since been torn down and is a parking lot across from Jay's Tavern. A new borough building was constructed in 1954 and completed in 1956, the building was designed to house the fire department at one end of the building. Our station has two bays, with a storage room, and radio room. This remains our home still today.
Our Trucks Allenport's first fire truck was a 1931 Dodge truck with no pump, and only a bed to haul hoses and equipment in. Seven years later the department got a 1937 Chevy with a front end pump. This truck was a commercial chassis with an open cab. Although this truck was still in service with the department The Pittsburgh Steel Company donated a flatbed Ford truck with a 750 GPM portable pump with a gasoline engine attached to the pump to the department. This truck only lasted a short period of time before it was retired from use. A 1956 GMC truck with a 750 GPM waterous inboard pump soon replaced the Ford truck, the department was able to purchase this truck by using a matching funds from the Federal Government. Allenport's next fire truck was a 1967 Seagrave pumper with an open cab, it had a 1000 GPM pump and was in service until retired from service in 2004 when Allenport received its newest truck, a 2004 Toyne mini pumper. |

Other Fire Department history
*The first department firefighters had bells in their homes to alert them of a fire call, and hose carts were pulled by hand to the fire scene. *Our department is currently dispatched by Washington County 911. *Allenport VFD held the first Las Vegas night in Washington County in 1975. *Allenport fire department has been noted for having exceptional Christmas trees, this tradition was started over 77 years ago. Most of the trees were over 30 feet in height and swayed with the wind, in some cases flew over because of the wind. In the 1960s a concrete base was poured into the ground along with a tree holder donated by The Pittsburgh Steel Mill to better serve future trees,Past Chief Jack McCrory who has since passed away, taught electricity/electronics at the California University, built a timer which was activated by a magnetic switch and time clock to turn the lights on and off automatically. *Allenport firefighters are well known in the area for giving the best Christmas treat bags to the children in town. The treat bags contain all types of goodies and also healthy fruits. Santa rides around town in one of our trucks greeting children and residents and inviting the children back to the firehouse for their goodies. Children come by the firehouse to visit Santa and receive their goodies every year with a big turnout. Our firefighters showing the true Christmas spirit take time after the children in the town.
