Private Victor Stanley Jones Medal
Private Victor Stanley Jones was the first Australian
soldier to be killed in action on a foreign battlefield. Private Jones
was a member of the Queensland Mounted Infantry. He was shot dead while
on patrol at Sunnyside on January 1900, during the South African, Anglo
- Boer War 1899-1902.
From Rockhampton in Queensland, No 219, Private Victor
Stanley Jones "B" Company, 1st Queensland Mounted Infantry, Colony of Queensland,
was the first Australian Volunteer to lose his life in action on a foreign
battlefield. Private Jones was killed in action on January 1st, 1900 at
Sunnyside, South Africa during the Anglo - Boer War
