12-1-04: KDR Lois Lane was euthanized.  Her mammary tumor had finally interfered with her quality of life, and earlier that week an abscess appeared that went necrotic within a day or so.  ZZR Mr. Learntmylesson and ZRR Kinks were also euthanized as both had extremely severe lung scarring from chronic Mycoplasma pulmonis infection/URD that was making their lives miserable.

11-17-04: ZRR Vanilla was necropsied by Dr Rehagen at DCPAH.  The conclusions were: Lung - Severe, chronic, active multifocal to coalescing, necrotizing bronchopneumonia with bronchiectasis, abscessation and BLAT hyperplasia; Retroperitoneal space - Severe, acute, unilateral perirenal hemorrhage; Kidney - Severe, acute renal tubular nephrosis with intracytoplasmic pigment.  The comments read 'Based on histopathologic examination, pulmonary changes are most consistent with a bacterial pneumonia.  Bacterial isolation of Mycoplasma pulmonis confirms this finding.  The cause of the perirenal hemorrhage could not be determined.  The renal tubular necrosis is suggestive of pigmentary nephrosis due to bile accumulation..'  Vanilla had no litters.

11-10-04
ZRR Mr. Learntmylesson has had URD since Stoli's death.

9-12-04
Wm Stoli of EKO passed.  Cause of death is assumed as URD, myco flareup and malocclusion.

7-8-04
Fiona of EKO passed.  Cause of death is assumed as pneumonia.

7-7-04
Fiona has sudden, acute, severe pneumonia and dyspnea.  Treated with Baytril injection, drops and Clavamox drops.

7-3-04
Rattery under temporary, self-induced quarantine until bacterial numbers get under control and more conclusive results come in.

7-3-04
Libby/KRR Liberty, Iceman/SFR Chilly Willy, and Pip/SRR LMR Gallico necropsied by Dr Yamini at DCPAH.  Findings were: (Liberty) Bronchopneumonia - necrosuppurative, diffuse, severe; pericranitis - fibrinosuppurative, moderate, diffuse and (Chilly Willy and Gallico) Interstitial cuffing pneumonia - multifocal, minimal to mild.  The comments read: 'Changes in the lungs are most consistent with a bacterial bronchopneumonia and cuffing pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma species.'  (Bacterial culture from mycoplasma on the lungs revealed Mycoplasma pulmonis from broth in Chilly Willy and no mycoplasma species isolated from Gallico.  Liberty had Lactobacillus species isolated from the liver and Lactobacillus species and Mycoplasma arthritidis isolated from the lung.)  None of these rats produced any litters.

6-23-04
Libby/KRR Liberty passed.  Body prepped for necropsy.

6-17-04
RH Jack died.  Cause of death is assumed as old age.

6-1-04
Laney/KDR Lois Lane is developing a benign mammary tumor.

4-22-04
Gizmo/Roger St Gizmo of EKO was necropsied by Dr Rehagen at DCPAH.  The conclusions were: Lung - Severe, locally extensive, chronic, pulmonary abcessation; Skeletal muscle - moderate, locally extensive, acute, suppurative myositis.  The comments read 'Based on histopathologic examination, the pulmonary abscess is most likely caused by a chronic bacterial infection.  Isolation of Mycoplasma pulmonis in pure culture from the lung supports these findings.  There was no evidence of an infectious or inflammatory process within the salivary glands, uterus, hemochorial placenta or fetus.  The significance of the myositis is not clear in this case.'    Gizmo was pregnant with 3 fetuses, sired by KDR Rockmelon, past due by 4 days.

4-21-04
Noted pyometra, dyspnea in Gizmo.  Ampicillan and Dexamethasone injections given, Panmycin Aquadrops to be dispensed.  Vet incorrectly diagnosed as having a myco attack.

4-11-04
Fang of Rogers St passed.  Cause of death is assumed as old age.

1-15-04
Winston/Roger St Cobra Bubbles of EKO was necropsied by Dr McKnight at DCPAH.  The conclusions were: Mass (submandibular and interthoracic) - large cell lymphosarcoma; Lung, liver, spleen, heart - lymphosarcoma; Mass (unguial area, previously removed) - mammary gland fibroadenoma with cellular atypia; skin wound - cutaneous healing with suppurative and necrotizing dermatitis, myositis, and abscessation.  The comments read 'The skin related to the incision site appeared to be healing, but an active superficial to deep infection was likely causing the dehiscence noted.  There was no neoplastic tissue present in the tissue around the incision site.'  Winston had not sired any litters.

1-13-04
Winston's incision reopened again.  Jack, Stoli and Patches have smaller infections also, current Tx working.

1-8-04
Winston's incision reopened; he undergoes surgery to resuture.

1-2-04
Winston undergoes mass removal.
