Wartime Photos of Indian soldiers

These are actual and original wartime pictures depicting Indian soldiers in German service.

Originally, it was Subhas Chandra Bose that advocated the formation of the Indian legions in both the Heer and the Waffen SS to fight against the British Imperial rule for an independent India. This idelogy also gave rise to the Indian National Army that was prevalent in SIngapore. However, their nationalistic dream was shattered when both Chandra Bose and their German leaders abandoned them at the end of the war.

It is interesting to note that a lot of photographs show the Indian soldiers in tropical uniforms with tropical insignia.

Every effort has been taken to provide the fullest description. Please click on the thumbnails for a bigger picture.
Note Indian Legion SS collar tabs with "Wolf" insignia
Note the flag with the words "Azad Hind" and tiger mortif
Note the "Freis Indien" arm shield
