Commandments and Ordinances

 

 

      Luke 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments

     AND ordinances of the Lord blameless.                              Romans 6:23

                 (a) commandments      (b)  ordinances   Note: these laws are different.

 

1.  Were the ordinances law of  Moses and the law of  God

abolished at Jesus' death?

       (a) Isaiah 51:6,7,8 ... my righteousness shall NOT BE ABOLISHED. Hearken

     unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose HEART is MY LAW; ...

     2 Peter 2:5; 3:13  Before Noah, even forever in the new heavens and new earth,

     shall righteousness dwell.   (1 John 3:4,8; Isaiah 66:22,23)

       (b)  Ephesians 2:13to16 Having ABOLISHED in his flesh the enmity, even the law

      of commandments contained in ORDINANCES: ...

 

2. What are some differences?

       (a) Romans 3:31; 7:7,12; 13:9,10  Do we then make void the law through faith?

     GOD FORBID: yea, we establish the law.  God's law reveals sin to us and that we

     need to be converted to the only Saviour. Psalm 19:7; John 14:6; 3:3,5,16,18 

        (b) Hebrews 9:22, 1to28 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood;

     and without shedding of  blood is no remission. Galatians 3:16,19,29 Wherefore

     then serveth the law? It was added because of  transgressions, ( a.   1 John 3:4;

     1 Timothy 2:15; Romans 4:15; Genesis 3:1to12 Note Eve coveted the fruit and stole

     it. Exodus 20:3to17) till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; ...

     Genesis 3:15,21 seed promise, ... Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord

     God make coats of skins, and clothed them. Revelation 13:8 ... the Lamb slain

     from the foundation of the world. ...redeemed ... with the precious blood of  Christ

     as a lamb without blemish and without spot: ... Leviticus 4:27to35; Numbers 5:5to8

     When a man or woman shall commit any sin ... a trespass against the Lord, and that

     person be guilty; Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: ... Bring his

     sin offering before the priest, and shall lay his hand upon the  head of the sin offering,

     and slay the sin offering in the place of the burnt offering. The priest shall take of the

     blood of the sin offering ... the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath

     committed, and it shall be forgiven him. (Lev. 17:11) Acts 2:37,39; Eze.18:20to32

     Exodus 25:8,9,20to23; Heb. 8:1to5; 9:23 An earthly sanctuary that was a pattern

     of  the heavenly sanctuary, which the Lord pitched, and not man.     1 Peter 1:18,19

 

3. Which of  these laws are full of types and shadows pointing to the Messiah/Christ,  and which is the perfect law of  love?

      (a) Psalm 19:7; James 1:25; 2:8to12; Exodus 20:3to17; Deuteronomy 5:22; 6:5,6;

     Matthew 19:16to19; 23:36to39 The ten commandments are the minimum standard

     of  love, to a Christian, Matthew 6:33; Ezekiel 20:12 and a sign of  sanctification by

     faith. Hebrews 4:1to11;10:25

      (b) Hebrews 10:1to4,10 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and

     not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered

     year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. ... By the which will we

     are sanctified through the body of  Jesus Christ once for all.

     Exodus 12:2to8,42to49; John 18:28;19:6,28to37; Luke 22:1,19,20; John 19:14,31

     Passover sabbaths

     Leviticus 16:15,16,29to34; Hebrews 10:19,20; Luke 23:45,46

     Day of  Atonement sabbaths    Daniel 8:14; Rev. 20:2,3,11to15 Judgement day

      Note spiritual applications may still apply.

 

4. Which law  in meat and drink offerings, and holydays, and sabbaths were blotted out at Jesus death?

      (a) Leviticus 23:38 Beside the sabbaths of the Lord ... Exodus 20:10 But the

     seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord ... (Isaiah 58:13; Rev 1:10 the Lord's day)

     Luke 4:16; 6:5; 23:52to56 They ... rested the sabbath day according to the

     commandment. Note Luke records for us that after Jesus' death the seventh day

     sabbath, the Lord's day is still a commandment. (ten commandments not blotted out) 

     Acts 13:42,44; 16:12to15 And on the sabbath we (Paul and other Christians)

     went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be  made; ...

     Paul spake ... the Lord opened hearts, and baptized whole household. Praise God,

     for a special day like this, to remember all of God's goodness to us. And in the new

     heavens and new earth, that the Lord will make for the saved. They shall all come

     to worship and praise him. Isaiah 66:22,23; Rev. 21:1to4;22:2

      (b) Colossians 2:14to17 Blotting out the handwriting of  ORDINANCES that was

     against us, ... took it out of the way nailing it to the cross. ... which are a shadow of

     things to come; but the body is of Christ.  Leviticus 23:37,39 These are the feasts of

     the Lord, ... to be holy convocations, ... meat offering, ... drink offerings, every thing

     upon his day. ... Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, ... on the first day

     shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath." Nehemiah 10:32to34;

     Ezekiel 45:14to17" ... the make reconciliation for the house of  Israel.

     2 Corinthians 5:15to21 ... God who hath reconciled us to himself  by Jesus Christ,

     and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; ...

 

5. What new covenants/testaments?     (1 Corin.10:6to12)

      (a) Jeremiah 31:31to34; Hebrews 8:6to13; Deuteronomy 5:22,25to27,29; 9:16,17;

     10:1to5  ... God shall speak unto thee; (Moses) and we (the people) will hear it, and

      do it. (old covenant, our sinful flesh Romans 8:1to9 they/we can not do it) ...

     And I (Moses) looked, and behold, ye had sinned against the Lord ... And I took

     the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your

     (the people's) eyes. (covenant broken James 2:10,11,12) ... the Lord said unto me,

     (Moses) Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, ... And he (God) wrote on

     the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, ... and put in the

     ark (of the covenant) ... ( new covenant, written on human tables)  Proverb 3:1to6

     Exodus 31:18; Luke 11:20; Matthew 12:28; 2 Corinthians 3:3  ... written not with

     ink, but with the Finger of  God/Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but

     in fleshly tables of the heart.  Praise God, be an epistle of Christ, be born of the Spirit

     from the heart in God's love! John 3:3,5,16,18 The new covenant can be yours by

     faith. Romans 1:16,17,18 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of  Christ: for it is the

     power of God unto salvation to every one the believeth; ... The just shall live by faith.

      (b) Luke 22:19,20 Jesus said, ... This is my body which is given for you: this do in

     remembrance of me. ... This cup is the new testament(covenant) in my blood, which

     is shed for you. (Hebrews 10:26to31;)1 John 1:7to9
