How I judged the Triple Ribbon Awards

I read all of the entries, and then decided which one(s) I liked the very best from each contestant.

Those songs I moved on to the next round.
I then read these again, and judged them on spelling and grammar mistakes (Mike had less than you would at first think!), or lines that I thought didn't sound quite right.
I narrowed these down again, and moved the remaining ones onto another round.
These I read again for several things, such as
a) Originality in title
b) Originality in style
c) Story telling abilty
d) How well the song "sang itself"
e) How appealing the song was
f) and overall quality

I also checked which ones had the title in the chorus.

Then I moved the best onto another round. I read them all again, and awarded them on which I liked the very, very most, and which had ranked highest in the rounds overall.

And so I present you with
The Songwriters Guild Spring 2004 TRAs.

Third Place goes to Mike for his song "Beneath the Surface"

and Honorable Mention goes to Julie for her song "Goodbye"

Second Place goes to Heather for her song "Country Boy"

First Place goes to Holly for her song "Some Day"
