Thought of the day:
"I must govern the clock, not be governed by it."
--Golda Meir

Don't forget: Turn your clocks one hour forward! Yes, we lose an hour, but we get it back in the fall.

All Work and No Play

  • 1. What is the longest you've held a job?
  • Just over 5 years. Why did I stay for so long? I had a great boss, who was a good role model, and he appreciated what I did. Why did I leave? The district was restructured and I ended up with a new district manager that was opposed to the idea of me taking a college class on a Saturday. He insisted that I had to work Saturdays, so I found another job and quit.

    2. Do you like your job?
  • I would like my new job more if the boss didn't have the Dr. Jeckyll/Mr Hyde personality. I've never had a boss like this one before. The guys I work with have told me not to take it personally when he loses it. It's just because he's upset with himself, and he's "transfering". Fortunately, I am patient, dedicated and professional. I could imagine if he had someone working for him that had a short fuse, there'd be a lot of screaming all day.

    3. Do you get along with your co-workers?
  • I get along well with the guys at work. I don't think they're given enough credit for all they do for the company. I've almost always gotten along well with my co-workers, and my best friend is a former co-worker.

    4. Have you ever been fired?
  • I've never been fired and I've always received excellent reviews. I had one position eliminated several years ago, and I was laid off last year, which was a surprise to many people.

    5. Are your work hours during the day, evening or do they vary?
  • My hours are typically 9 to 5:30. I have been working helping people with taxes in the evenings and weekends lately, and plan on looking for an evening part time job in a few weeks. A long, long time ago, I was a night manager at a convenient store, and I've had part time evening jobs off and on throughout the years. But, for the most part, my full time job has been during a normal daytime schedule.
    New Job Update:
I'm going to try to limit this to only positive comments. Early in the week, the boss complimented me on a couple of good ideas. The ideas seemed hardly worthy of praise, since they were just common sense things, but I'll take it where I can get it. Midweek, I managed to organize a big box of papers that would be best described as "clutter". The boss asked me to look for something in the box on Friday, and I found it in a second. Organization = Saved Time
    Job Search Update:
I'm not searching, at the moment, but John still is. He still has a couple of promising leads, so keep your fingers crossed! I still know way too many people that are job searching, so please continue sending me job leads.
    Spring:
The weather was nice mid-week, but it turned colder and it was snowing by Saturday, and even more today. Thursday's entry has a picture of the daffodils blooming prior to the snow returning. At least we're not expected to have an ice storm like last year!
    Ashley Update:
Ashley is home from the hospital and feeling a lot better. Thanks to you guys that sent her well wishes and inquired as to how she was. Her and Kevin went to see a movie last night. By the time they decided what movies they wanted to see, it was too late to see the ones they had chosen. One of the remaining choices was Starsky and Hutch, which they didn't think they'd like since the series was before their time. We're talking back in the "disco days"! I barely remember watching that tv series...it seems so long ago. It was an action drama/situational comedy series like Miami Vice. I think the actor that played Hutch in the series had an album come out in the early 80's. Anyone recall?
    MacKenzie Update:
Kenzie spent the night Friday night. We took her out to a local restaurant, where she flirted with everyone. She's so well behaved and cute. She got fussy before bed and it was a struggle to get her to settle down, though. She didn't want to finish her bottle, she didn't want to play, she didn't want to go to sleep, she didn't want to be held, she didn't want anything. I think she was just overtired. I rubbed her back until she finally fell asleep.

Saturday, Kevin and MacKenzie went out to his grandmother's on his father's side. She got to see her Aunt Sara, her Great Aunt Lisa, and her second cousin, Ryan.

Kenzie gets around in her walker very well. I was wearing my pooh bear slippers and she was thrilled by them and chased me all over the house. I had to take my slippers off to end the game of chase. She tried playing chase with the cat, who just went into another room to hide.

Other updates: John and my Dad both have bronchitis. Thankfully, I'm feeling all right, with the exception of normal PMS symptoms.

    Thanks for reading!
