I had the privilege of meeting and listening to Tom Golisano twice in my lifetime. He was quiet inspirational. For those of you who don't know him, he is most known for being the founder of Paychex. He started with a good idea, and ended up with a multi-million dollar business. His philosophy is simple: "attitude is everything", and I believe that whole-heartedly.

This is something I read today:

"Negative attitudes are catching. When you associate with gloom-and-doom chronic complainers..., you can't help but become more and more like them... Spend time with people who look for and find the good in every situation. Just walk away from the naysayers."

The timing of this article was perfect, because after days of dealing with negative, rude, selfish, or "bah-humbug" people, I was at the end of my rope yesterday. Well, as they say, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" I lost the battle to keep a positive attitude, and ended up grumbling and complaining all day. With a poor attitude, my productivity decreased, and that made me even more grouchy. Then I went home to the official "bah-humbug" man, and that made things worse. (It's not a good idea to have two grouchy people in the house at the same time!) Reading this inspired me to try to maintain a positive attitude, despite all the obstacles...

I tried to inspire holiday spirit at work earlier this week. It was time to set up the Western NY Computing System's Christmas tree, and I sent out an e-mail to get volunteers to help. Fortunately, there were a few volunteers, but I was hoping to get more people involved. Everyone that helped was rewarded with an employee recognition certificate to encourage more teamwork.

For those of you who might be considering shopping online, beware of Sears. I placed an order a week ago Friday, and the online status kept saying "processing". It took several calls and e-mails to customer service, who had no information, before they sent me an e-mail saying, "due to overwhelming demand for this item, we are unable to process your order. Please visit sears.com again." I received the e-mail a week after I placed the order! Fortunately for me, I found a similar item that was less expensive somewhere else. It was ironic that I was grouchy at first about not getting what I ordered, but ended up getting a better deal anyhow. :)

Lesson learned: Having a bad attitude is a waste of time and energy. Bad things can happen for a good reasons, if you can just wait to find the reasons.

If you're taking the time to read this, I welcome your feedback. Anything goes, from mispelled words to your opinions; just no porn or profanity!
Thanks for reading!

Take care!
