Journal: Portfolios

The portfolio that we considered I found the chosen color scheme to be a good one.  There should have not been so much white space on the page, however, the white, gray, and orange, were good colors to place together.  I also liked the effects that he used when things were clicked on throughout the website.  Clicking on an item would cause things to appear or things to move.  These caused the viewers of the website, in my opinion to stay interested in the webpage.  I did not care for the fact that he made the viewer’s of his webpage confused.  His company plastic perspective was never went into about detail and when the link was click on the webpage no longer existed or had never been in existence at all.  I would make sure that all my links were useful and easily displayed for the viewer’s of my website.  I also would not have information on my website that would not be fully explained.

I liked the webpage that was about the guy with the cat.  It was personal and told his readers everything about him.  I love the fact that he placed a lot of different pictures on his page also.  His links were accessible and easy to find.  I like the fact that there was music on the page as well.  However, I would do more of a variety of songs.  There a music players that can be found on the internet.  I would use one of those with different genres of music that I like so that all my viewers could find something that they could bear listening to.  I feel that if the viewer doesn’t appreciate the music that would be playing while viewing my webpage may cause them to pay less attention to the material that was actually placed on my page.

The webpage that had the picture of the people ballroom dancing was a decent one.  I wouldn’t have placed so many different types of fonts on my page.  I didn’t like that at all.  The way she displayed all her pictures to be viewable on one screen was a good idea to me.  A viewer doesn’t want to wait for one picture to load each time they look at your page.  It is much more convenient for the viewer to be able to see several pictures at one time and if they decided to see a bigger view of one of the picture then the opportunity is available.

Erin Rietz’s portfolio was a great set up.  I love the way the page looks bare but then you click on one of the squares and information is displayed.  However, I do not like the color choice.  It is too light.  Personally, I would have used a different color scheme.  It looks like the page should be about the birth of a child or something because of that light baby blue.  She list her context very well, it is easy to read and understand.  However, she has no pictures of herself and really doesn’t give personal information about herself.  The viewer is able to figure out some information about her because of her resume and she speaks a little about herself under one of the links.  Even though she speaks about herself, it’s only a small paragraph so it fails to give the viewer much of any personal information.

I love the portfolio of Lori Weber.  I want to take her webpage set up and use it for my own.  The quote displayed on the first page with the picture is perfect.  Also, the fact that the first page’s information isn’t really centered is a good idea too.  The way the links display like puzzle pieces is a good idea too.  Her set up is a little much for something for me to do but I would love to imitate it.  The font is perfect and the pictures are too.  Her information is short and straight to the point, I find that as a big plus as well.  It leaves the viewers to guessing and makes them want to click on the links to further find out more about the work of Lori Weber.  The only thing that I could see wrong with her portfolio is that she doesn’t place any personal information about herself other than her resume but besides that her portfolio is perfect.
