Maluku Report 94 - Provided By Masariku Network Attack on the village of Hatiwe Besar (8.30 WIT, 26 September 2000) The form of attack on the village of Hatiwe is still the same, that is an attack from the direction of the coast and an attack from the direction of the mountains. The Muslim mob came in large numbers and pelted the Christian housing complex in the village of Hatiwe Besar with bombs, mortars and continuous firing of shots. It is a great pity that between 8.30- until 10.30 WIT, not a single member of the security forces was sent to stop the attack of the rioters or to help with the evacuation of the Christian population of Hatiwe Besar. Finally at 10.30 soldiers from a unit of the Indonesian Airforce special forces were sent from their base at Pattimura Airport which is only 2-3 km distance from Hatiwe Besar village. At the same time, ships of the Indonesian Navy which usually guard the waters of Ambon Bay, made no attempt to blockade the mobilisation of Muslim forces by boat from the direction of the city of Ambon towards the village of Hatiwe Besar. The flames have have been observed devouring the housing complex in Hatiwe Besar and are spreading towards the GPM LaHai-Roi church building. At the same time in the city of Ambon, that is in the areas of Talake and Pohon Pule, the exploding of bombs and shots being fired can be heard. Sporadic bomb explosions are also being heard in several places including the villages of Nania and Galala. It seems as though a a large attack is planned by theMuslims just at the time when Ambonese Christians are spending time in meditation. There is an indication that there is a large concentration of Muslim forces in the main Al-fatah mosque with the numbers continuing to increase up till 11.00.WIT. The next report with concerning the developments in Ambon we will send in a few hours time. Provided By Masariku Network 2000 - Masariku@egroups.com
