Chapter 10

"Too late," Alec said, sarcastically, trying to hide the fear in his eyes.

Alec and Max looked into each others eyes. Alec felt the gun pressed against the back of his neck, then the troupes came out and circled them. In the midst of the gun toting army, White emerged.

"452, 494 isn't this quaint? What a surprise to see you two here."

"You set us up!" Alec screamed at him. Max glared at Alec trying to calm him down. She knew Alec had a hard time controlling his tongue and he might just say something that would wind both of them up dead.

"It doesn't matter what I did to get you here. You're here now and I plan to make good use of you. Take them away."

They led Alec and Max down a grungy hallway to another room in the creepy basement.

The guards threw them into the dark room together.

"This is all your fault!" Max whispered to Alec.

"Why do you blame me for everything?"

"If you hadn't brought up Logan, we could have escaped quicker and then we wouldn't be in this mess."

"Had you let me call Logan to begin with, we wouldn't have had that argument."

"You're impossible!"

"Well, look on the bright side, at least Joshua's safe." Alec smiled.

"I guess you're right."

"I'm always right. He can tell Logan where we are. Logan can work his computer magic, to create a diversion and we'll be out of here in no time."

"Whatever." Max said, moving to the other side of the room.

A little while later she looked over at Alec, who was rubbing his shoulder. It was obvious from the expression on his face that he was in pain.

"Does it hurt?" Max asked, coming closer to his side of the room.

"Not really, I'm alright."

"Stop lying. Lemme see."

Alec turned his back to her. "There."

"Alec, take off your shirt, I can't make out anything but dried blood and material."

"You'll do anything to have your way with me." Alec chuckled.

"Riiight, because you're just so irresistible." She scoffed.

Alec took off his shirt slowly, he was in more pain than he let on. The wide gash on his shoulder was still in fact bleeding. "Alec, this doesn't look very good."

"I'll live."

"Not if were stuck down here. What are we going to do?"

"We'll think off something." He smiled at her. "Now, don't get any ideas. Just because I'm hurt and my shirt's off, doesn't mean you can ravish my body and leave me for dead." Alec told her sarcastically, trying to lighten the sombre mood.

"Good try Alec, but I don't think any of your sick fantasies will be happening, at least not with me."

"Ah, you say that now, but sooner or later you won't be able to hide your attraction to me."

"Do you ever get tired of being this full of yourself?"

"Nope, not really. See that's why I keep you around."

"What as a reality check?"

"Naw, to sharpen my skills, when it comes to the ladies. See whatever doesn't totally revolt you, will work on a normal girl." He laughed and Max couldn't help, but laugh at his insane notions.

"I like, when you laugh," he whispered, almost shy.

"You do?" She answered equally shy.

"Ya, it's like cheap therapy. It's like no matter how bad the situation, if I can get you to laugh, then I know we'll be okay."

"I guess that make sense." She smiled at him. "Maybe you're not as stupid as you look."

"Why, thank you. It's quite the compliment considering the source."

"Shut up!" She giggled, punching him in the arms. Alec winced in pain, holding his shoulder.

"Oh Alec, I didn't mean to-I forgot." Max told him, bringing her hand to his shoulder.

"It's alright," he said, watching her hand rub against him. "I'm glad I'm not alone in this Max." Alec told her quietly, taking her hand in his. "I don't think I could go through this alone."

"Me either," she whispered, squeezing his hand.
