Chapter 12 Max came and sat beside Alec. "Max, are you okay? You don't look so good." Max was hot, sweaty even. Her skin felt like it was coming away from the rest of her body. "Max?" Alec gently shook her. Max could her his voice but could do nothing about it. Her dark eyes rolled to the back of her head and she lost consciousness. Alec closed his eyes, hoping it was all some sort of nightmare, but when he opened his eyes, Max was still lying on the dirty floor, barely moving. "Max?" He tried again but got no response. Alec crawled to the door, banging on it hard. "Open the Fucking door! I know you can hear me!" The door swung open knocking Alec back towards Max. "We need a doctor." "What for?" The man grated out, not interested. "Can't you see she's sick? She could be dying, you bastard!" "Not my problem." "You son of a bitch!" Alec screamed and lunged at the guard, using every once of strength he had in him. The guard fell to the floor with Alec on top of him, strangling his neck with his bare hands. Alec stood using all the adrenaline now kicking through his system to do so. "Looks like, it's your problem now, asshole!" Alec picked Max up over his shoulder, despite the burn surging throughout his entire body. He scanned the hallway with expert eyes, and made his way to another room. "We're getting out of here Max, one way or the other." There was nothing keeping Alec up, or carrying Max, except for his need to protect her and keep her safe. He couldn't explain it, but he knew this was their only chance to escape. When he had been in the room, with White, he heard everything yet pretended to still be unconscious. He knew they had ten minutes while the guards changed shifts. With every once of strength he had left, he bounded through the door that led to the outside world. Dodging random bullets, he managed to clear the property and get them to the road. Alec could barely walk by then, and gently sat Max down. Even through her clothes, Alec could feel her skin was hot. "What's wrong with you Max?" He whispered, more to comfort himself. The sun was beginning to come up, and Alec already knew there was no way he could make it all the way to Logan's apartment on his own. Without the protection of darkness, anyone could see them. Trying forcefully to keep his eyes open, eventually he gave up and succumbed to his own fatigue. |
