ON ELIAN GONZALEZ:
OPERATION PEDRO PAN 2000?

I am keeping this one short and sweet because the topic is tired!!
And, my farewell is belated...

Some parting shots on Elian:

1. His mom was never seeking political asylum. She was seeking sex
from a criminal lover who had been banished by Cuba and fled to the
USA.

2. Elian was photographed far too often with toy guns? Did this not
make him a typically violent good American?

3. How could relatives he never met dare to think that they could ever
replace the great father he knew and loved?

4. Did those Cuban-Americans who hate Castro so ever explain how
kidnapping one little boy would really hurt an entire country and its
defiant leader? If so, I missed it.

5. I will NEVER hate a country that harbored Assata Shakur and Huey
Newton. In Cuba, Black Panthers win asylum. In the USA, Panthers
are legally murdered, framed and caged by the police.

6. I have read that Cubans are 100% literate. Even if that statistic is
inflated, the USA’s horrid literacy rate can never be compared.

7. If Elian was a Haitian whose skin was as dark as my own, he would
have been rushed back home before his clothing was dry!

8. Cuban citizens receive free education and free medical care. So,
how dare anyone claim that Elian’s life would be blissful or superior in
the ruthlessly elitist and capitalist USA.

9. If the USA really cared about Cuban children, why don’t
Cuban-Americans and all others demand that the US government lift its
brutal trade embargo against Cuba? Why not cease the imperialist
terrorism that has caused droves of Elian’s Cuban peers to suffer for
over 40 years?!

10. In 1960, The US government granted covert political asylum to
14,000 Cuban children. It was known as Operation Pedro Pan. Many
of these children suffered in America!!! ( For more info see
www.workers.org/ww/2000/elian0316.html)

11. If Elian’s father had kidnapped him and risked his life to see his
lover, would that doting dad have been sainted, as his undeserving
mother did and was? Far too often, custody law is sexist and abusive to
men.

12. Elian’s distant Miami relatives were unemployed when he washed
ashore... Who paid for their Dream Team of attorneys???

13. 6 year old boys have no legal power to sign federal documents.
If they do garner such power post-Elian, then perhaps the next 6 year
old  Black boy who finds himself imprisoned or being tried as an adult
can petition to divorce himself from his obligatory racist and inept
public defender...

Dear Elian:

I am happy that you are home. I hope that you are well.
And, I hope that you are happily playing with toys that do not celebrate
violence and death. Best wishes to you always...
