In this film, black lesbians and gay men lament rampant racist harassment within mainstream gay organizations/events/nightclubs, corporate ceilings, the myth of color blindness, the arrogance of racist white gay sexual predators, racial scapegoating, Afro-Carribbean homo hatred, macho self hatred, intercultural competence, intracultural bigotry, gays in ancient Africa, gender and procereation politics in Africa, the hypocrisy of bigoted "family values", and much more.

This is a must see film. It is visual therapy for me...I have been socially isolated in Little Rock, Arkansas since 1998. The excrutiating pain of loneliness here is often overwhelming...Watching this film is like a journey back home to kindred spirits in Oakland or Chicago. I miss spending all of my days with kindred afrocentric, intellectual, femme lesbian spirits. I miss cities where being lesbian means much more than being butch studs or creepers in gay clubs. Here in this hostile and twisted, vapid, bible belt, so many femmes are deeply closeted, or self-medicating internalized homo hatred via alcohol, drugs, toxic casual sex, and other repulsive wastes of time. I would rather be alone than snared within such poisonous frays. So, I spend way too much time alone here in Arkansas. And, I travel back home as often as my hectic schedule allows...

I feel less lonely when I watch "Shades of Love: Black Homosexuality - Volume I" . This film reminds me of real gay life outside of this lonely hell. It is a vicarious social and political treat. This film is reminiscent of another classic documentary entitled "Shoah" . Isis channels the global black gay experience via individual monologues, just as the Jews in " Shoah" channel viewers through the Holocaust. Our ancient African Holocaust is still ongoing. Our genocide is intensifying through the spiritual serial murders of masses of gays by black preachers, in black churches, who are being pimped by white racist politicos, led by Republikkkan executioners.

This film is artistic healing medicine for what ails those of us who see the New World Order with our third eyes and defiantly love ourselves as the homosexuals we are born to be. We are blessed by select births. God creates homosexuals in every living species. And, She loves us just as we are.

I love and respect Isis, her sacred sensuality, and her fiery talents that shine through her diverse art. I love her because the divinity in me recognizes and reveres the divinity in her. Her work is expertly crafted. Experience it all today.
