SCENARIOS FOR LESSON PLANS
2301 Written Assignments for Spring 2008

There are ten written assignments.


1. TEACHING AREA:  Your grade level and content area:

Send an email. Include the following:
1. Your name, last name first.
2. Followed by the grade level you want to teach
3. Then state the content area.  This would be social studies, language arts, math, science, or health.

Example:

Casstevens, Ann     9th grade     American History

You will use this grade level and subject area for several of the written assignments,  Pick any grade level from EC-12.

In the subject line of your email put:

Your Name (last name first) and grade and content area

Example:

Subject:  CASSTEVENS, ANN     GRADE AND CONTENT AREA

NOTE:  Put YOUR name NOT mine in the Subject line of your email.


2.  ACTIVITIES LISTS:  Prepare three lists of at least five things you can do in your regular education classroom for students with the following diagnoses.  Use your selected grade/age level for the examples

a. Learning disability in reading
b. Learning disability in the auditory senses; this may be a hearing loss or a deficit in auditory receptors
c. ADHD

In the subject line of your email put:

Your Name (last name first) and topic

Example:

3. LESSON PLAN I:  Based on the grade level and content (subject area) you chose, write a lesson plan for your class.  Use the Hunter model.  Search the Internet for sample lesson plans.  If you choose one from the Net, modify it to fit the Hunter model.  It should cover one class or learning period depending on the grade level you have chosen.  This lesson plan should be somewhat detailed.  Be sure you include all of the elements required.  In the subject line of your email put:  Example.

4. . LESSON PLAN II:  Using Lesson Plan I, modify your instructional strategies/ techniques and activities for a student you have that has been identified with a learning disability in reading.  See Scenarios for Lessonn Plan above.  In the subject line of your email put:  Example.

5. LESSON PLAN III: Using Lesson Plan I, modify your instructional strategies/ techniques and activities for a student you have that has been identified with a learning disability in the auditory senses.  See
Scenario or click on the link at the tope of the page.   In the subject line of your email put:  Example.

6. LESSON PLAN IV: Using Lesson Plan I, modify your instructional strategies/ techniques and activities for a student you have that has been identified with dyslexia.  See Scenario.  In the subject line of your email put:  Example.

7. LESSON PLAN V: Using Lesson Plan I, modify your instructional strategies/ techniques and activities for a 504 student you have that has been identified with ADHD  See Scenario.  In the subject line of your email put:  Example.

8.  LESSON PLAN VI: Using Lesson Plan I, modify your instructional strategies/ techniques and activities for a student you have that has been identified as gifted.  See Scenario. In the subject line of your email put:  Example.

9. Prepare a handout to be given to a parent during a conference concerning their child and your class.  It should contain 3-5 suggestions for the parent to work with their child at home.  Include:
a. A definition of the problem
i. Inattention in class
ii. Failure to do homework
iii. Disrupting the classroom
iv. Any other problem you can think of
b. Examples of what you are doing for the child in class
c. Suggestions for the parent

10. Prepare a Power Point presentation.  This is your opportunity to be creative and imaginative.  This should be interesting, humorous, creative, etc. 

SCENARIO:  You have been asked by your principal to present an in-service to your fellow faculty members.  The principal has been impressed with the success of special needs students in your regular classroom. The topic will be understanding the special needs of some students.  It should last a minimum of 30 minutes Include:
a. Definition of special needs
b. Name and explain he different types of special needs
c. Explain the differences between modifying and accommodating student needs.
d. Discuss the general educators responsibility in the regular classroom setting for providing educational opportunities for children with special needs.
