About the TJC Writing Lab
We in the J1108 Writing Lab are very excited about the upcoming semester. We have several new things planned.

Our regular operating hours for the Fall semester will be as follows:
Monday           1 am-3pm
Tuesday         10am-3pm
Wednesday     10am-6pm
Thursday        10am-6pm
Students can sign up on the bulletin board outside the Writing Lab to secure a time slot or they can still walk-in. ÊWalk-in students are assisted on a first-come, first-served basis.

We will be offering workshops on various areas of writing!  We have completed the calendar for August/September.  These workshops occur at specific times and your students will need to sign up in advance.  Please feel free to make copies of the attached handout for your students or you can stop by the Writing Lab and we can give you a hard copy. You can also contact us to request that we conduct a workshop specifically designed for your students.

We now have a Writing Lab email address!  Students (and faculty) can email brief questions to Writinglab@tjc.edu.  These emails will be addressed within a 24-hour period on Mondays-Thursdays. Friday and weekend emails will be addressed the following Monday.  We hope that this will greatly assist our growing distance education programs as well as our on-campus students.  Note:  We will most likely not be able to address an entire essay through email.

We have created tutoring reports which will be filled out by the tutors on each specific student  These reports will detail the information covered in the tutoring session.  These reports will then be sent on to the designated instructor.  You will be able to keep these reports on file and use them to verify that your students are attending and utilizing the Writing Lab facilities.

Faculty who would like to conduct a class in the Writing Lab will need to come by and make a room request. We want to create a schedule of when specific instructors will be bringing their classes into the Writing Lab so there will not be any scheduling conflicts.

We will be offering an informal meeting on August 31, 2005 from 1:30-2:30 in the Writing Lab.  This will be a basic Q & A session; Mandy Stubblefield will be conducting the meeting and she will answer any Writing Lab questions you have at that time. Please feel free to stop by with any questions/concerns you have regarding the Writing Lab.

We would also like to welcome a new faculty member in the English department to the J1108 Writing Lab team.  Jacob Huval will begin working in the Writing Lab this semester as an assistant director.  We in the Writing Lab are devoted to helping both the faculty and the students here at TJC with any writing-related activities.  Please let us know if we can do anything to assist you and/or your students.  We are looking forward to a very productive semester!
