NOTE:  Most of you were not specific enough in setting your goals.  Your goals must be specific, observable, and measurable.  Below is an example of "my" Professional Growth Plan for the semester and for the year.  This is an information item only.  Everyone who completed their Professional Growth Plan and submitted it on time will be given credit for it.

SEMESTER GOAL: What do you hope to accomplish this semester?
1. Upon completion of this semester, 75% of the students in my traditional, on-campus education courses will pass with a grade of C or better.
2. By the end of the semester, 75% of the students in my traditional, on-campus education courses will enroll in the next sequential course.
3. A minimum of one professional workshop will be completed by the instructor prior to the end of this semester.

RATIONALE:  Describe how this goal aligns with your long-term goals?
Pre-service teachers, like in-service teachers, are held to higher standards of both behavior and performance.  Because this is a new venture for many students, they will need mentoring and guidance to attain and maintain this standard.

METHODS/STRATEGIES: Describe the steps you will take to accomplish the goal.
1. Students will be given examples  of the required elements of an assignment.
2. Assignments may be rewritten for a higher grade if the assignment was submitted on time and received a grade of C or lower.
3. Any resources available to a student may be used to find the answers on evaluations unless otherwise specified.
4. Students will be referred to the TJC Writing lab for assistance with written assignments.
5. Student mentors will be assigned to incoming majors.
6. As the instructor, I will attend a minimum of one professional workshop that will enhance effective teaching.

INDICATORS OF PROGRESS:

3. As the instructor, I will attend a minimum of three professional workshop that will enhance effective teaching.
4. Thirty-five percent of the education graduates will enroll in an upper division university to pursue a degree in education.

Pre-service teachers, will need to be guided and supported during their training period.  The laws and regulations of education change annually.  To encourage a sustain their enthusiasm and dedication, they will need the support of their faculty members and other appropriate in-service teachers.

1. Students will be given ongoing advisement regarding their progress.
2. Student mentors will be provided for new education students.
3. On-going guidance and support will be provided to education majors by the faculty.
4. Institutional Research data will be collected from receiving institutions on the progress of TJC students.
