A Mere Christian Ministry
"If Christianity were something we were making up, of course we could make it easier." C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
Monthly Magazine and Christian Lay-Apologist Resource Directory
A Brief History:
A Mere Christian Ministry was founded as Seventh Day Ministry on 1 April 2004 in Giessen, Germany by brother Christian Allen.  We are a primarily web-based lay-ministry that does not advertise and we do not seek monetary contributions of any sort.  Brother Christian started this ministry out of a love for others who are in the position and state of mind he was before accepting Christ as his savior.
On 5 January 2005 the ministry's name was changed due to a misperception that we were affiliated with Seventh Day Adventists.  This is a deliberately non-denominational ministry so the name was changed to it's present form as an homage to C.S. Lewis and Richard Baxter.  Mere Christianity as we mean it is the common core beliefs and values held by all Christians, regardless of their denomination, as spelled out in the Nicene Creed.
In February 2005 the ministry expanded its scope to include contributions of writing and artwork by Christian writers and artists.
A More Detailed Mission:
The Ministry's mission is threefold:  1. To reach a particular demographic of fringe and non-Christians and bring them the good news of the Lord's sacrifice for us; 2.To provide resources and inspiration for other lay-ministries and apologists; 3. To glorify God.
Our Motivation:
Children born in the late 60's and early 70's to open-minded, 'progressive', lower and middle class fringe or non-Christian American parents have a unique perspective of spirituality and religion. At the time we were born and raised, many of our parents were growing frustrated with the way things were and sought new political and social leadership. As Christianity was seen as inseparable from the 'establishment', believers in the progressive movement shied away from the church and anything associated with it. Most of us were taught about consideration of others, cross-cultural tolerance, racial harmony. That is well and good and certainly consistent with how God wants us to lead our lives; that is also only a small part of God's intent for us. The fact is, as far as a foundation of beliefs is concerned, we were left largely to our own devices.
As human beings we felt the emptiness in our hearts and souls that comes from not knowing the Lord. A few of us sought answers in the Church, but without believing it to be an authority. Many looked to science, philosophy, and other universe-viewing lenses to find proof of why we are here. Many also turned to Eastern religions and philosophies, which were greatly romanticized in movies and television programs of our generation. For some, exposure to the myriad of belief systems and world-views humans have created led us to a conclusion, all roads lead to God. This conclusion was easily reached based upon the fact that nearly all theologies and most philosophies teach codes of ethics which are interchangeable. This similarity lends itself to the notion that all religions and explanations for existence are to some extent true.
What does this have to do with our mission at A Mere Christian Ministry? Any person who has reached the conclusions outlined in the last paragraph must, if they possess integrity, accept Christianity as one of the paths to God. Therefore, it must be studied by any true seeker of knowledge; to not study it would be tantamount to ignoring a plate of nutritious food at the table while starving to death. Based upon our own experience, we believe that any honest seeker of the truth will find it in the scripture of the Bible. They will have a revelation that there is only one road to God, belief in Jesus Christ as our savior. The irony is that a belief in all religions and philosophies (and science) would bring one to this ultimate revelation. But perhaps God needed a generation of believers who had run the gambit of world-views. God bless you all.
