LESSON PLAN:  Tuning Your Voice, Grades 4-7 (Language Arts, Reading, English)

 

The following short writing assignments will help you tune your voice. Describe each of the following experiences or objects from a different perspective. Try to assume the role of each person. How would he or she describe them?

 

                      1. A piece of cheese cake:

                      a. Describe it from the perspective of a person who is on a strict diet.

                      b. Describe it from the perspective of a hungry lumberjack who has been working all day.

 

                      2. A deer:

                      a. Describe it from the perspective of a hunter.

                      b. Describe it from the perspective of an animal rights activitist

 

                      3. A game winning shot during the last second of a basketball game:

                      a. Describe the shot from the perspective of a fan from the winning team.

                      b. Describe the shot from the perspective of a fan from the losing team.

 

                      4. The top of a bungee jumping platform:

                      a. Describe it from the perspective of a thrill seeker who loves the adrenaline rush of such

                         activities.

                      b. Describe it from the perspective of a first time jumper.

 

                      5. A heavy metal rock concert:

                      a. Describe it from the perspective of a seventy-year-old grandmother.

                      b. Describe it from the perspective of a sixteen-year-old Metallica fan.

 

                      6. A father who must steal for his family:

                      a. Describe it from the perspective of his son.

                      b. Describe it from the perspective of a sheriff who wants to arrest the father.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION:

 

Scenario 2:

The students can set up a Geocities web page to display their ideas and responses in groups.  Or a group PowerPoint presentation.  As a group, they can create more scenarios, post them and/or reply to other group's scenarios.  The can create a wall display (I remember banners as the all-time fun activity to make in elementary school: print out in bubble/block letters then coloring it in), printing out their responses and computer pictures.
