Amendment 19 (1920)

Translation: All citizens including women have the right to vote. Congress has the right to enforce this law.

History: Since the Declaration of independence women have been fighting for equality. Some states let women vote as early as the 1800's. Women used the 14th and 15th Amendments saying women were citizens and they should have the right to vote. Women that fought for women's rights were called suffragists. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton led the suffragist movement. Getting help from all the people involved in the temperance movement in Congress, they passed the Amendment in 1919 and it was ratified in 1920.

Personal meaning: Woman's right to vote was another big step toward equality. Women still are not thought of as equal but its a lot better than 20 years ago. Women are now in the military, and holding corporate positions and I think it is great.
