Amendment 21 (1933)

Translation: The 18th Amendment is no longer effective. Any transportation of alcohol in to the states that was not allowed by Amendment 18 is allowed. This amendment has seven years to pass among the states.

History: The 18th Amendment was not totally ineffective, it dropped alcohol consumption considerably. But many populated areas had alcohol being shipped and consumed illegally. With organized crime, came police that would not always consider citizens rights in the search for illegal alcohol. The 18th Amendment ended not just because it caused organized crime to skyrocket, but to open up new jobs. In 1933 the Depression was in full swing. The Depression was a low point in America’s history. Many people were unemployed and the making and shipping of alcohol would create thousands of jobs.

Personal meaning: This Amendment to me is just a correction of a mistake made 14 years ago. Trying to stop drunkenness and violence was not the mistake. Thinking that this would change things completely was the mistake. This amendment probably helped pull America out of the depression.
