Column 001 - | New Batch Of Hopefuls Search For Online Stardom |

Once again the internet's eyes, and ears turn to the sounds of hopeful contestants competing for the title of American Internet Idol. As preparations and casting take place, I can't help but remember my time
as an American Internet Idol contestant. I was once the naive little internet gamer who stumbled onto the (at the time) unknown AII. I was intriguiged because of my love for the show, so I submitted my application not knowing the roller coaster I was about to become part of. I got the call-back (reply e-mail) and within an hour of my application submission I was given a audition date, and my picture was posted on the website. I had begun my musical career. My first audition didn't go so hot, but I slid past by a
vote into the next round, which I guess there's my first piece of advice.

Don't count yourself out after one bad or sloppy audition. I came back the next week and got into the top 3 or so with voting so it is possible that people will like you after a bad audition. I made it all the way to the end of the game, and I guess you can call me the Justin Guarinni of American Internet Idol. I got second place in the first season and was absolutely thrilled. i never expected to have made it that far, and I only did the competition because I like to sing. As for this new group of people about to become part of this new competition I want you to keep a few things in mind.

Along with what I said earlier, be sure to enter this competition with a sense of humility, don't be a diva and think no one can beat you, because the people voting can see right through that. Also be sure that you are doing this competition because you really want to do it, not just because it is another game out there and you want to play them all. It is wrong to waste the time of people who care about the game, and you have to dedicate a lot to this game, especially with the new schedule they have worked
out.

Next remember that even though the judges might not like it, the voting people might so, don't get down on yourself if they say a couple of bad things every now and then. And lastly this is a game for fun, so have some.

I hope this is a great season, and hope to soon be crowning the next Mike or Chris in the near future.

The House is filled, and 5 hopefuls songs drown out.

After a small break from the column I am back to give commentary on what is happening in the game. I got the chance to review the auditions that got Andrew, Ashley, Chris, Jeff, John, Katie, Kimberlilyn, Lady, Michael and Pj into the house, and I can say I was both blown away and disappointed at the same time during the process.

Beginning with Andrew, I feel like he struggled at the beginning and through most of the song, however I think his first audition was a lot like my first audition in season 1. He is testing out the waters of what the judges like and then he will turn his game on. I see a lot of potential in him.

Next we have Ashley, I do not agree with Melinda on this song selection. I think that it is admirable to sing a song like this, but I think she should have done a more pop ballad to showcase her talents and beautiful voice. I agree that she should be in the top 10, because she has an amazing voice, but I think that her song selection needs to be more in tune to her abilities.

On to Chris, I think you sang the song to low to begin with so when you climbed the octave it was actually on the note it was supposed to be on, that is why it sounded so much better when you got to the chorus. If you would have started at a higher note and kept climbing I think you would have impressed the audience more, but you got to save some tricks for later in the competition.

Jeff, I think he is one of my favorites in this competition. It may not have been the best songs for his range, but I think when he sings the lower notes, it is very solid. I would suggest that he gets a song originally sung by a man, so that it will show off his range and he won't be forcing himself to the high notes.

Jim, Jim, Jim, I think you chose a song that is way to overdone so that was your problem in the audition. I think that you would have done better with a pop song of today rather than a oldie song, plus it is very risky to do Stevie Wonder. I think that with a different song to show off your voice you would have made the top 10. I would have put you there.

John. I agree with Travis what was that last note, if you are going to send in a file make sure it sounds the best you can make it sound. I think you chose a poor song. It is a great song yes, but the problem with it is that you have to look at who has recently taken it on. Morgan Burke from American juniors, and Clay Aiken. Unless you can hold a candle to them you shouldn't try it. I really think you lucked out and that Melinda liked you enough to give you a 7 because I don't think based on that audition that you should have made it on.

Katie, you sang the song very breathy the entire way through if you would commit to the notes the song will turn out better. I think that you lucked out as well that they were taking 10 from this 15 and not narrowing it down further. I hope that you can bounce back from this audition and make the next one better.

Kimberlilyn, I have a soft spot for you, I think you are probably one in this competition who really blew me away with your initial audition. WOW, is all I can really say.

Lady, why haven't you been discovered? You have such a pure voice. I love the pitch, and the way you dictate the words in the song, you have a very Musical Theater quality to your voice, and I really appreciate that. You are amazing and I expect you to go far.

Mathew, oy, that was somewhat painful. I don't mean to sound rude, but did you enter this competition to give some kind of humor to it. I know that sounds harsh, but I can see why you didn't make it passed the first round.

Michael, I think you need to cut back on the vibratto buddy. It is obvious that you are either a operetic, or musical theater singer. I do appreciate a good vibratto but you need to regulate when it is used and not, focus more on your straight tones for the next audition.

Mike, You aren't Kelly Clarkson. You know that, and i know that. I think you definitely chose the wrong the song. I think you should have chosen a country song, because I think your voice is suited best for that type of music.

PJ, I think you are phenomenal, but I definitely agree with Mel on this one, you need to slow down in your delivery, we need to hear that you can support the notes that you sing. You are great though none the less.

Ryan, I have to agree with Travis, this was not a good performance you really should think about finding another love, or hobby.

and last Shieh, I think you need some training to get your voice to project more and get more of a rounded sound to your voice. Right now it sounds very flat, and as Melinda said monotoned. If you will just work with someone I think you could have a shot at another season of this game. I heard some notes that could turn into something nice if you just learn to round them.

I'm not saying to any of you that you suck, or that I think you should stop singing, I just think that you all should continue to work harder to produce what is your best.

Right now if I had to make any predictions I would have to say that the top 2 will be Kimberlilyn, and Lady. Maybe I'm right maybe I'm wrong. Prove me right or prove me wrong.
