Bad news for Borussia Dortmund: Playmaker Tomas Rosicky has suffered a broken arm in the Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen. Its not clear yet how long the Czech will be out injured. Rosicky, who had been taken to a Bremen hospital while the match was still going on, was operated yesterday evening in the Knappschafts Hospital in Dortmund-Brakel. The surgery went well.

The mishap happened in the 81st minute when the 23-year-old crashed on his left arm after a tackle with a Bremen player. Here, both the ulna and radius have been fractured. "Its not an open fracture, but things arent where they are supposed to be," said coach Matthias Sammer after the 2-0 defeat against Werder. Rosicky was unable to join his team-mates in the team bus, but had to return with team medic Dr Braun in an ambulance to Dortmund. The Czech international was operated on Saturday night at the Knappschafts Hospital by senior consultant Dr Karl-Heinz Bauer, senior physician Dr Janigk and BVB medic Dr Braun. "The surgery went well," said Dr Braun. Two pins were put into the bone to stabilize the arm. Rosicky has stay in hospital for two to three days. Its not clear yet when Rosicky will be fit enough to return, but it will most likely take a couple of weeks.

"Just like the rest of the team Im shocked," said Torsten Frings. "We wish Tomas all the best and on Saturday against Stuttgart we want to earn three points for him." Bremens coach Thomas Schaaf said: "We wish Rosicky a speedy recovery."
