Medea Benjamin is                                                                                       Founding Director of Global Exchange,                                                                                             a non-profit research, education, and action center dedicated to promoting peaceful, productive human ties throughout the world. She has been active in advancing and supporting human rights and social justice struggles around the planet for more than twenty years.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to gain  perspective from one of only a handful of Americans not connected with the military or media who has been
to the region since September 11.

~ Learn about her recent trip to Afghanistan with four
Americans who lost family members in the September 11th attacks and their outreach to Afghanis who lost loved ones as a result of US bombing of their country.

~ Hear about the findings of the women's delegation she led to Afghanistan and Pakistan to investigate the humanitarian situation among the refugee population, assess the consequences of US bombing, and talk to women's groups about what role they would like to play in a transition government.

~ Consider her reasons for calling upon the US to take moral and financial responsibility for the future of Afghanistan and rebuilding the region.

These highly publicized efforts have been applauded by the International community, and have led to the US government being pressured at home and abroad to discuss the harm done to the Afghani people and to compensate the innocent victims.

Medea's current focus on Afghanistan is an
extension of her life-long commitment to
improving conditions for humans and the environment. In 2000, she garnered widespread support as the Green Party candidate for US Senate in California, with platform issues that included living wage, schools-not prisons, and universal healthcare. She has worked to improve labor and environmental practices of US multinational corporations and has spoken out against harmful policies of the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the  World Bank
She continues to strive for fair trade practices that will benefit
both producer and consumer.
