We've come home!
After nearly four years in Taiwan as missionaries with SEND International, in October of 2002
we returned to the United States.  We are now living in Irmo, South Carolina (in the Columbia area), on an unpaid leave of absence from SEND.  Bob is teaching English to international students while we seek the Lord's will regarding our future ministry options.
We would appreciate your prayers for us during this time
.
Thank you for visiting our home page!

We don't update this site anymore, so the things here are getting old, but you may still find something of interest.

There are photos, Amy & Wesley's web pages, devotionals by Bob, and other odds and ends.

Yardsale Evangelism!
In anticipation of our departure from Taiwan, we had a number of yardsales to sell as much as possible of our unneeded stuff. What better opportunity to pass out evangelistic tracts and tapes!  click here to see more

essays in biblical theology from Bob:
Faith and Works
(posted 7/22/02)
This essay reconsiders the biblical relationship between faith, good works, and justification, paying special attention to James' assertion that we are "justified by works."
Election in the Gospel of John
(posted 5/13/02)
Arminians have often struggled with various of Jesus' statements in the Gospel of John (e.g., 8:47, 10:26), in which Jesus indicates that only those who already "belong" to God prior to their exercising faith in Christ can indeed exercise such faith. These passages have often been taken to provide some of the strongest support in Scripture for Calvin's doctrine of unconditional, particular election to salvation. In this essay I reexamine these and other passages in John's Gospel, arguing for an Arminian understanding of the text that better takes into account the historical context of Jesus' statements.
What is Arminianism?
Election in Romans Chapter Nine
(posted 11/30/01)
Romans chapter nine is widely considered the definitive passage of Scripture providing support for Calvin's doctrine of unconditional, particular election of individuals to salvation.  In this essay I present a detailed exegesis of this and related passages, on the basis of which I argue for an Arminian rather than Calvinist interpretation of the text.

Called to Be Holy: A Biblical Perspective
(Nappanee, IN: Evangel Publishing House, 1999)

One of the best books I've ever read on the subject of Christian living.
Author John N. Oswalt dares to "raise the bar " and challenge us to live according to the
biblical standard of holiness rather than according to the minimized expectations commonly
maintained in the church.
