Blum's Natural Cycle

August 6, 1998; Harrisburg, PA

Senators' infielder Geoff Blum hit a natural cycle; a single, double, triple and home run in that order; in four at bats. Here's how it happened:

In the first, Blum came to bat with the bases loaded and no outs. The ball hits off the right field wall, one run scores. Blum moves to second in a rundown.

Blum bats in the third with two outs and no one on. He doubles to right field.

With a runner on first in the sixth, Blum then triples, again to right field, driving in baserunner.

Blum leads off the eighth needing only a homerun to complete the fete. (Bear in mind Blum's career high homerun total for one season in pro baseball is 3.) He hit the round-tripper which proved to be the game winner in the 3-2 victory versus the New Haven Ravens.

Baseball Hall of Fame representatives asked for Blum's bat to take to Cooperstown. Personally, I would have kept it......it's hot!

Only two other Senators in modern history (since 1987) have hit for the cycle. Matt Stairs did it August 23, 1991. Most recently, Jose Vidro cycled on July 20, 1996.
