The birdroom is a long narrow area built in what we would call wasted space in the garden. The room is situated on the side of the house and has two fights on the one side and one small one as show in the one photo. With only 16 square meters of free floor space , We have manage to organize everything in a simply free flowing way that accommodates our rather large team of birds. The floor is tiled for easy cleaning, hygiene and aesthetic appeal. We have equipped our birdroom with 30 breeding cages which are arranged along one wall from floor to ceiling, with exterior matchbox type nestboxes. The floor of each breeding cage is a pull out tray for easy cleaning and each side wall can be removed to enlarge the breeding cage. Each cage has separate feeding and watering utensils as can been seen in the above photograph. We also have a hospital cage which is a commercially produced cage, used for its intended purpose. On the left of the room is a self, with loose show training cage. Used for the intended purpose and to help sort out birds for shows and sale. Temperatures change quite rapidly in the room so we have a heater and fan to compensate. A radio keeps the birds chirping to the sounds of local radio stations (Some day I might even hear them singing a pop song). A kettle is on hand so that I don't have to keep running into the house to fetch hot water for washing utensils, etc. We even have a kitchen sink. We are using to 2 x 4ft flourescent lights are fully automated. A night light (2ft flourescent) and the light from the steet light helps the birds find their way back to their nests at night. Any other tips regarding birdrooms and aviaries will be very welcome. Please email me |
