For about a year I have been trying to figure out what type of quilt to make my father. I made the quilt called ‘Buggy Barn Crazy Stars’ and while looking at all the red, white and blue I thought what better colors to make a U.S. Navy quilt with. This was my first attempt to print pictures onto fabric. A photo of dad in his 20’s while in the Navy and also a picture of the ship that he was Chief on, The U.S.S. Waverly, were set in the squares. The anchor in the middle is appliquéd and the backing is red fabric with overall anchors. This is quilted with an all over star pattern. He received this when he was 86 years old. I received a 3rd place ribbon at the U.P. State Fair where it was judged one day after his birthday. This was a great quilt to exhibit the diverse fabrics. All of the colors, I trust, make this a very cheery snuggler. The greens and reds where used and the blues were abstained from being placed in this particular coverlet.
