Antonio is stewing in his cell at the Llanview jail when Jack the Guard comes over.
Jack: Hey, Vega. Somebody to see you.
Antonio: (standing up from the bunk) It's about time.
Andy enters.
Antonio (unenthused): Great. Get me outta here, and have them send me a real cop.
Jack: Hey! Wanna pick on somebody your own size?
Jack makes as if to go over and get in Antonio's face. Antonio glares even more. Andy cuts in.
Andy: It's ok, Jack. (She enters.) I can handle this hothead.
Antonio: (now insulted) Hothead? If I hadn't shot Rodriguez, that lady and her brother would be dead!
He gets right up in Andy's face, but she doesn't flinch or step back.
We hear the doors outside slam as Jack leaves.
Andy: Just chill out, will ya?
Antonio (glaring and pacing around with his arms crossed and his thumb on his chin again): Don't tell me to chill! Just get me outta here!
Andy (trying to reason with him nicely as possible considering the circumstances): The Commissioner's working on it. Believe me, you're not doing the department any favors by vacationing here. We need you back on the streets if you're going to be useful.
Antonio (unimpressed): Yeah? Well, I should have been outta here last night.
Andy (seriously): You shot a man. He's dead.
Antonio (glaring at her scronfully): He shot a woman. He wouldn't drop the gun. What was I supposed to do? Let him blow me and Moody away, too? Like I told your boss, I don't have time to wait for you cops. Not that you'd be any help. (taunting her now) I mean, you see the woman on the floor, and you go to pieces. What kinda cop starts crying when she sees blood?
Andy (upset): All right. I went to pieces. You wanna know why? That woman was my sister-in-law.
She turns away and walks over to the bars as a surprised Antonio watches.
Andy is still holding onto the bars and looking outside the cell. Antonio walks up behind her.
Antonio: Look, I didn't know she was your sister-in-law, all right? (He reaches forward and starts to touch her cheek then quickly changes it like he was reaching for the bars) I'm sorry.
Andy: Forget it.
She whirls around and moves to the other side of the cell again, still sniffly.
Antonio: Finding her like that...just shot and all that blood....How's she doing?
Andy (not quite as sniffly): Not so hot. Look, all I wanna do is find the guy who has been stealing guns and putting them in the hands of kids like Luis Rodriguez.
Antonio (returning to sullen mode): Well, I can't help you here.
Andy: I told you the Commissioner is working on it, but it's not gonna be easy. It's not going to be easy to convince a judge. (sees he is still not impressed) Come on! It's every cop's worst nightmare to have a parolee smoking a guy twenty-four hours after he gets out of prison.
Antonio (both glaring and scowling): Well, it's my worst nightmare being back in here behind bars. I musta been crazy...going for all that undercover crap!
Andy (getting nervous); Wait! So what-
Antonio (ignoring her): I saved a guy's life, and I go down for it?
Andy (doing a little glaring of her own): What are you saying? Are you backing out?
Antonio: I don't know. What if I am?
Andy: If you're backing out, you don't have to stay here one more minute as a guest of the city of Llanview. You can go straight back to Statesville!
They stop at a stalemate and the scene ends.
