The success of any archaeological program depends a great deal on the cooperation of many different people and organizations. For those who are interested in the history and archaeology of the area, there are several different ways to become involved. See below for information about becoming involved in our field schools, as a volunteer in the field, or by supporting our efforts in other ways. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Interested In A Field School? If you are currently a college/university student in good standing, you are eligible to participate in our summer field school for academic credit. Use the links below or to the left to learn more about our 2008 Field School, or to request information about the 2009 Field School, set for June of 2009. |

Interested In Digging as a Volunteer? If you are not a current college student, or would simply be interested in volunteering to excavate, we would love to hear from you. We are planning several short-term excavations during the fall and spring seasons (and possibly also during summers), and would certainly love to have volunteers help us out. The next opportunity will be October 16-19, 2008. Click here for an information sheet about that project. If you are interested in being informed of these and future projects, please send an email to Ann Raab at annmraab@ku.edu and let her know. You'll be put on our volunteer list, and be contacted whenever opportunities aris |

I Don't Want To Dig...How Else Can I Help? While the excavation is the most visible aspect of archaeology, it is only a part of the whole project. We are always in need of people who would be willing to help at the museum in Bates County, setting up exhibits or coordinating tours, doing research, etc. Help is also needed on a regular basis analyzing the artifacts in the lab at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. If you could be interested in helping out in areas such as this, please email Ann Raab at annmraab@ku.edu to let her know. Again, you'll be put on a volunteer list and contacted when opportunities arise. |

I Would Like To Make a Donation!! Donations are always needed, and always welcome. The Field School is always in need of materials for use in the field, and for building facilities, etc. to be used by the students. During the 2008 season, severe weather destroyed several tents and one of our shower shelters. We are always in need of building materials for more shower shelters and other field equipment, just as an example. Additionally, the field school is costly for many students, and donations for student scholarships would allow many more students to gain the experience and academic credit needed to pursue archaeology as their career of choice. If you would be willing to make donations of any kind, please contact Ann Raab at annmraab@ku.edu to discuss how you can help. |
