Bring Back Kirk: Generations was mean to the original
crew. No wonder most of them refused to be in it. James Doohan said he needed the
money, but to be treated so badly after all he and the rest of the original crew
meant to Star Trek, is just terrible. Those that did show up (William Shatner,
James Doohan, and Walter Koenig) were just bywords. What was their involvement?
Except Shatner, maybe five minutes. The person treated worst of all, though, was
William Shatner. Those in charge at the time must've decided he did not mean much
to the fans. True, some like William Shatner, and some don't, but how can they kill
off Captain Kirk, the living legend of Star Trek. Alright, Star Trek is just sci-fi,
but the positive effects it's had on our society are not. Thousands of people have
entered technology and space fields because of Star Trek's influence. To kill off
ANY of the original crew just ought not be done. When Spock was killed off, there
was an enormous outcry, and it took two additional movies to fully bring him back.
In Star Trek III Spock asked Kirk why he came back for him. Kirk said, "You
would've done the same for me." Why then, did they not bring back Kirk? IMHO, I
think those in charge didn't and still don't care about the older generation of
fans. For them, it was "Out with the old stars (the trailblazers), and in with the
new ones." I still like the new Star Trek stuff, but it does bother me how they've
treated us and those of the original crew.
