Williamson leaves the "Creek"

Kevin Williamson (writer of the first 2 Scream films) has left the show Dawson's Creek. Williamson created the show and it was based on his life as a teenager. Williamson complained that the show had gotten "too soapy". What was at one time called the "most realistic teen show ever" turned into a "Melrose Place" type soap.

It is very unusual for the creator of a show to exit so early in the shows run, but Williamson claims his hectic life was taking it's toll. "I was starting to crash and burn," he says. "It's best I'm not part of it this year." Williamson insists he never intended the show to get as "soapy" as it did.

To fill the void left by Williamson, Alex Gansa (Maximum Bob) and Tammy Ader (Party of Five) will come in.

The show will go back to it's less melodramatic ways like it was in the first season. Of course, they will have to think of a realistic way to bring in Britney Spears, who's set to join (for a limited time) the series next season.

Dawson's Creek relied heavily on Williamson's rich dialogue. Only time will tell if Dawson will be able to survive without Williamson. Williamson also abandoned the writing chores for Scream 3, leaving it to Ehren Kruger.

Most likely, networks and producers will start making Williamson agree to longer contracts, because he has proved that he doesn't like to stay with "his babies".
