Jimmy's friends at the Daily Planet and elsewhere

CLARK KENT / SUPERMAN Hailing from Smallville, Kansas, Clark is an ace reporter for the Planet and Lois Lane's partner on many an assignment. He is even-tempered, kind, patient, and quite capable at his job, even in a big city like Metropolis; he is also one of Jimmy's closest friends. He does, however, have the curious habit of dashing off in the middle of a conversation, leaving the person with whom he was talking to inquire in a bemused tone, "Clark?..."

Superman is Kent's alter-ego, but few people know the mild-mannered reporter's secret. Superman is possessed of incredible powers, among them phenominal strength, tremendous speed, the ability to fly, x-ray vision, and a nearly indestructable body. Originally from the planet Krypton, Superman has dedicated himself to protecting the city of Metropolis from evildoers; he has a great heart and cares deeply for all of the city's inhabitants. Jimmy has earned the reputation of being "Superman's pal"; with the kid's penchant for getting into trouble, it's a good thing, too.

LOIS LANE Sassy, spirited, independent and rather cynical, Lois is the Planet's most talented employee. Reporting is her life, and she'll take great risks to get that big scoop. Luckily, she has a big blue guardian angel.

Initially displeased about being paired with Clark, Lois has grown to like and respect her coworker. She is fascinated by Superman, and has something of a crush on him. She appears to regard Jimmy as a friend and an asset if not an equal, judging from the frequency with which she allows him to join her on assignments as well as her tendency not to take his ambitions seriously all the time.

KARA / SUPERGIRL Clark's spunky 'cousin' is actually the last surviving member of a race of beings related to Kryptonians. She is gifted with powers similar to those of Superman, and was given the chance to prove herself when a gang of dimension-travelling valkyries abducted the Man of Steel and threatened to destroy the Earth as well.

Kara met Jimmy at the Planet shortly after she came to Earth with Superman. The two youths joined forces to discern the inner workings of the nefarious Intergang, uncovering a whole mess of deadly surprises. There appears to be an attraction of sorts between the pair, but it remains to be seen whether or not this relationship will be taken any further.

PERRY WHITE Editor of the Daily Planet, Perry demands nothing less than the best from all his employees, including Jimmy. Gruff and forceful, Perry lives for the paper and is keenly aware of its prestigous legacy. He does, however, infrequently drop his harsh facade to give his employees a good fatherly talking-to. Such moments are few and far between, though, so the Planet staff enjoy them while they can.

KYLE RAYNER / THE GREEN LANTERN A staff artist for the Planet and a friend of Jimmy's, Kyle led a fairly ordinary life - until one fateful day when, upon exiting the men's room, he was bestowed with the ring of the late Green Lanter Abin Sur. The ring had found Kyle - courageous, imaginitive, and strong - worthy of joining the Green Lantern Corps, despite Rayner's claims to the contrary. Although he seems unsure of his position now, Kyle should, with time, learn to be a great champion for truth and justice.

The Bad Guys

Dastardly fiends our young hero has faced

PARASITE Originally a two-bit janitor named Rudy Jones, the creature known as Parasite was created when a barrel of chemicals spilled on him. This vengeful baddie has the ability to drain people of their energy and tap into their memories as well.

Jimmy had a run-in with the Parasite when the villain weakened Superman and dragged him away to his secret lair. As the rest of Metropolis wondered what had happened to their hero, Jimmy sneaked off to find Parasite's hideout, and found more than he bargained for.

LUMINUS Once known as Eddie Lytenor, a former LexCorp employee, this solar-powered reprobate first embarked on a personal vendetta against Lois, then turned his attentions to Superman after escaping from Stryker's Island prison. Luring Jimmy and Lois into a trap, he used the two reporters as bait to capture a weakened Man of Steel.

TITANO In all honesty, Titano doesn't really qualify as a villian; as Lois put it, "He's just a baby" (albeit a really big, angry baby)! He was once just a simple chimpanzee who was shot into orbit during a space mission gone wrong; after being stuck in a meteor in cryogenic suspension for twenty years, he was freed by Superman and once returned to Earth began growing to enormous proportions. He was eventually sent to an island where he could live out the rest of his days peacefully, but not before wreaking havoc on much of Metropolis and nearly killing Jimmy. (Well, okay, so Jim slipped on a banana peel and fell off Lois' high-rise apartment building. It was Titano's banana peel.)

DARKSEID A being of unimaginable evil, Darkseid rules over the hell-world of Apokolips, a planet teeming with hordes of Parademons and enormous firepits. Darkseid and his numerous minions have made several attempts to subdue the earth and add it to Darkseid's vast interplanetary empire - accumulated as he conquered worlds in a ruthless search for the Anti-Life Equation. The people of Earth, with Superman's inspiration, have refused to give in to the dark lord's will; still, Darkseid will not rest until he has destroyed our world utterly.

GRANNY GOODNESS Sent from Apokolips to take control of Intergang as part of a plan to destroy the earth, she presented the Female Furies to take out the meddling Supergirl and Superman. Granny also had a couple of higher-ups in Intergang, Trouble and Amy, the latter of whom redeemed herself by helping Jimmy try to figure out the Doomsday Magnet.

FEMALE FURIES The Furies - Lashina, Mad Harriet, and Stompa - are three bad-ass women from Apokolips, each of whom has a particular nasty talent: Harriet has sharp spikes on her knuckles, Lashina possesses a kind of electric whip, and Stompa - well, stomps things. The trio, summoned by Granny Goodness, managed to subdue Superman and give Supergirl a run for her money as well.

METALLO He was once called John Corbin, until a disease led him to have his natural body turned into one made of metal. Powered by a chunk of Kryptonite, the android seeks to destroy Superman and anyone else who gets in his way.

Teaming up with a devious Planet intern named Tina, Metallo adopted the time-honoured tradition of using one of Superman's close friends - namely Jimmy - to lure the Last Son of Krypton to his doom. Fortunately, Superman and his pal managed to turn the tables on the persistent man of metal.

LEX LUTHOR Okay, so Jimmy and Lex have never actually gone at it head-to-head. But Luthor controls Metropolis, after all, so he's probably had a hand in some of Jim's mishaps. Actually, Jimmy - and most the rest of Metropolis' citizens - faced off against Luthor in a dark, alternate version of the city located in another dimension, where Lex and Superman teamed up to control the citizenry in a dictatorial co-leadership. However you look at it, no listing of Superman villians is complete without mentioning Lex Luthor.
