The Black-Eyed Peas "...Scotlands #1 Jockabilly Band" is Scotland's own rock 'n roll band :) I haven't had the pleasure of attending their concerts as I'm in California and they're in Scotland, but they must be very good as they're playing at The Celtic Connections Festival at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and it's an honour to be asked to play there. Visit their site and say hello :)

Scotland, like any country has her own cliches, figures of speech, idioms, expressions and local vernacular. If you visit Scotland you'll be surprised to find that some of the cliches from North America have the opposite meaning over there, and vice versa, as I have learned through experience! **LOL** I won't write about those experiences here, but if you'd really like to know you can email me and I'll share them, it's amazing how the meanings are so totally different!

My home town is between Glasgow and Edinburgh in central Scotland, I'm familiar with both cities, but spent more time in Glasgow and as a result I'm more familiar with the expressions from the West of Scotland.

If you intend visiting the West of Scotland, here are a few wee translations that will help you out :)

Yes = aye; No = naw; I = Ah; You are = ye'r.

I don't understand = whit dae ye mean?

You're speaking too quickly = gauny slow doon a wee bit.

What time is it? = Hiv ye got the time?

How are you? = How's it gaun?

Hello = hullorrer

Scotland The Brave

If you have any questions, or would like to know when my page is updated:

The tartan used as the background to this page is Argyll

Haste Ye Back!

Scotland the Brave

Hark when the night is falling Hear! hear the pipes are calling,

Loudly and proudly calling, Down thro' the glen.

There where the hills are sleeping, Now feel the blood a-leaping,

High as the spirits of the old Highland men.

Towering in gallant fame, Scotland my mountain hame,

High may your proud standards gloriously wave,

Land of my high endeavour,

Land of the shining river, Land of my heart for ever,

Scotland the brave.

High in the misty Highlands,

Out by the purple islands,

Brave are the hearts that beat

Beneath Scottish skies.

Wild are the winds to meet you,

Staunch are the friends that greet you,

Kind as the love that shines from fair maiden's eyes.

Towering in gallant fame etc.

Far off in sunlit places, Sad are the Scottish faces,

Yearning to feel the Kiss Of sweet Scottish rain.

Where tropic skies are beaming, Love sets the heart a-dreaming,

Longing and dreaming for the homeland again.

Towering in gallant fame etc.
