Mommys Day Off
by A. Price
"Xander, where are Giles sneakers?" yelled Buffy up
the stairs.
"I'll look up here for them" he yelled back down.
"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!" exclaimed Kendra her blond
curls bouncing. "Yes, sweetie?" he replied to his
daughter.
"I'm wearing ny Elmo shorts" she said as she pulled
them out of the dresser. "Okay, can you help find
your brothers shoes?" he asked her sweetly. Kendra
went to her toybox and pulled out the shoes. Xander
decided not to ask why they were there. He went
downstairs with the missing shoes in hand.
He gave Buffy the shoes and she helped Giles get
into them, she had Alexia on her hip. The bags
packed, her Mom and Giles were taking the kids
to the fair and then they were staying the night
at her Moms house. Buffy and Xander were going
to have a whole day and night off from parenthood.
"Hello, anybody here want to go to the fair?" Giles
asked as he walked in the door with Joyce. "We do,
we do!" said Kendra and little Giles together.
Buffy and Xander helped load the kids into the car.
"Thanks Mom!" said Buffy as she hugged them goodbye.
They went back into the house, Xander started picking
up off the floor. "Stop, don't pick up one more toy.
We officially have the day off. We are in a childfree
zone. Lets enjoy it!" said Buffy smiling that smile
at him.
Xander returned the smile "What do you have in mind,
mademoiselle?" he asked in his worst french accent.
"A day of just you and me" she said as she led him into
den where his office was. Willow and Oz had put in a
computer system, his clock collection was there. There
was also this very comfortable leather couch in there.
"What are we doing in here?" asked Xander.
"I have this fantasy about this couch" she said slyly.
He sept her into his arms and they settled on the couch.
Buffy pulled him close and kissed him hard on the lips.
"Wait" said Xander "Did you hear that? Oh, theres no one
here to hear, we are completely alone!" he resumed the
kiss.
Later, Xander went into the kitchen he came back with
sodas and snacks. She was curled up on the couch
wrapped up in a afghan. She looked lovely. They sat
and laughed and enjoyed the quietness. About 5 pm,
Xander turned to her "I want to take you out, somewhere
where they don't sell happy meals."
Buffy stretched and asked him"Do I have to get dressed?"
"Well it would be a good idea, you don't want me getting
into a fight over you!" he smiled at her.
Buffy and Xander went upstairs to dress for dinner. They
were going to "The Faded Rose" no happy meals served!
Xander watched as Buffy got dressed, she put on a white
dress with spaghetti straps. He thought she was just as
beautiful now as the first time he had seen her in high
school.
She and Xander hopped into the Mustang, it was Xanders car.
They pulled up to the restaurant. A night alone, it was heaven.
As they got to the door they ran into Willow and Oz. "Fancy,
meeting you here" said Oz with a smile. Willow hugged them both,
"Lets sit together" she suggested.
"Okay" agreed Buffy. Xander whispered into her ear "I wanted
you to myself" as they followed the other couple into the
restaurant. Buffy laughed out loud and whispered back to him
"Dinner with our closest friends, I'll make it worth your
while later" Xander thought a moment and replied "Eat fast!"
The four friends laughed and talked and caught up on things.
Everyones children were okay, Cordelia had another new man
in her life, work was good. Buffy laughed to herself thinking
of how it had once been, Willow pining for Xander, Xander pining
for her, and she pining for Angel. Life turns out funny.
They finished dinner and went there separate ways. When they
got home Xander playfully asked Buffy "to make it worth his
while now." she giggled and kissed him leading him up the
stairs following a trail of her clothes. "I get the picture,
lets eat with Willow and Oz more often!"
Later that night as they lay in each others arms, Buffy asked
"Is it too late to call and check on the kids?"
"I think so Buffy, I'm sure they are okay. I miss them too
Buffy. I loved having the day off, but we have a family now
thats what we are a family."
Buffy looked at Xander, they had come so far and she could
not imagine her life any other way.
