Give Me A Happy Ending

Buffy was greeted at the airport by her friend Anna. She had not been
to New York for months. It was Spring Break and her Mother had really
surpised her by saying yes to the trip. She remembered Buffy running
away, but not all of the circumstances. Giles had found a spell to
take away Joyces memory of Buffys slayer confession. She now lived
in blissful ignorance again.

Buffy hugged Anna, "I had to come check on you and Duncan" she said
as she let go.

Anna knew it wasn't being said but she had also come to check on
someone else - Angel. Duncan saw Angel occasionally and kept him
up to date on Buffy. He often thought that these two could be the
poster children for starcrossed lovers.

They headed back to the apartment. Buffy was quiet on the way, she
didn't even ask about Angel. She was so proud of herself.

Duncan greeted Buffy at the door with a hug. "It is so good to see
you" he smiled as he spoke.

Anna fixed a wonderful dinner. She sent Buffy into to talk to Duncan
as she cleaned up.

Duncan had news for her. "I saw Angel last week. He is well, he loves
you. But I am not supposed to bother you with news of him. I am so
tired of this and I am not even involved. I know that someday you
two wiil be together. I just know this will have a happy ending!"
He slammed his fist on the table, wishing he could help these two.

Buffy looked at him, his golden brown hair falling in his eyes. She
knew why Anna had fallen in love with him. He was a beautiful man
inside and out. Just like Angel.

Anna joined them in the living room, she had brought a soda in for
Buffy. She sat on the couch next to her. Buffy looked at her and
sighed. "You two have a happy ending, tell me how you got together.
You never told me the whole story."

"Are you sure you want to hear this? It will proably bore you to
tears." Duncan teased looking at Anna.

Anna started to speak smiling at the memory. "I was very innocent, not so very smart and all of 17 years old. I was walking home from
a basketball game one night. I didn't have a boyfriend. I was plain
and shy.

"She was not plain, she was sweet and beautiful even then!" interrupted
Duncan.

Anna smiled at him lovingly and continued. "Well,a man came out from
behind some bushes he wanted at least my purse and maybe more. I was
scared and started pleading with him to please take my purse and go.

Buffy watched Duncan as Anna spoke. He never took his eyes off her.
Even after all this time he cherished her. She could see it in his
eyes. They were so lucky.

Anna was still speaking "This guy jumps out in front of the mugger
and growls at him, his face is distorted and I am screaming at my
rescuer and assailant at the same time. The mugger runs off. Duncan
sees that I am okay and starts to run off."

Duncan speaks now "I thought I had scared her too much to stick
around. I knew she was safe from the mugger, so I ran."

Anna laughs and continues the story "I realize that he isn't going
to hurt me and I need to thank him. So I started chasing him down
the street, yelling at him to stop. When I finally catch up to him
he is my beautiful Duncan. I was very confused."

"Confused is an understatement." continued Duncan. "She looked so
innocent and her eyes pleaded with me to explain. I couldn't deny
her an explanation. I still can't deny her anything." he laughed.

"So, I looked upt at hime and I asked him to please walk me home."
said Anna.

"What was I supposed to do? I walked her home!" Duncan was smiling
at the memory. "We talked about a little bit of everything. I even
explained the vampire thing to her. I thought she would scream, but
she asked me if we could see each other again?"

"I just could not thing about not seeing him, no matter what he was.
I knew he would never hurt me." said Anna quietly.

"I told her we couldn't see each other again, it would never work.
My heart said yes, you have to see her again. But I did the right
thing and left her on the doorstep thinking we could never be. It
seemed like the right thing." said Duncan.

Anna looked at him and rolled her eyes. Duncan started the story
again. "Well, I wasa hundred years old, she was 17. I did decide
that night that I would stay in the shadows and protect her. So
I followed her on every date she had. I was turning into your

Anna laughs at him and tells her side "He thought he was in the
shadows, but I knew he was there. I dated very little but one night
I decided to take action. I gave this boy Ryan a really good, goodnight
kiss. Ryan was shocked! I said goodnight to him and he walked off
confused. When he left I called out to Duncan to come out, I know
your there."

"So I came out. I told her that she was much too young to be doing
that and she could have given that guy the wrong idea." added Duncan.

"I was really tired of the waiting game, so I went straight up to
Duncan and kissed him full on the lips. When I pulled away, I asked
him if he had gotten the wrong idea?" Anna was laughing as she told
this part.

Duncan chimed in "I definitely had ideas, and none of them were good.
Bad ideas, old vampire, young girl. At that point I was already in
love though. There was no turning back now. I didn't know how we
were going to overcome the obstacles. I just knew were going to!"

"I knew in my heart it was right. I knew that if I was just patient,
he would going to come to me and he did. I just knew it, in my heart."
said Anna with a huge smile.

Buffy looked at her friend. She knew in her heart that she wanted
what Duncan and Anna had. She only hoped she could be as patient as
Anna. Patience was never one of the Slayers virtues.

Duncan laughed "One of her window shades didn't work right, so I

"The window shade worked Duncan. I just left if up for you. I told
you I knew you were there all the time." said Anna. Duncan looked
at her with mock surprise. "You mean you left it open, anyone could
have been watching you, you were such a hussy." They all three broke
into laughter.

"So Anna turned 18 and she left with me. Her family had a real hard
time with it. The only one who really gave us his blessing was her
grandfather. Everyone else basically thought I was about 15 years
older then her and a dirty old man. Her Grandfather though said,
that he could tell we loved each other by the way we looked at each
other. We got married amd have been together every since." Duncan
said and smiled with great satisfaction.

"Unfortunatley my family never got to know Duncan, they were killed
in a car accident a couple of years after the wedding. My Grandfather
died a few years ago, he left us this building." Anna said sadly.

"She is the only woman I have and ever will love" stated Duncan
matter of factly. He then planted a kiss on Annas cheek.

Buffy watched the two of them. "They do have a happy ending" she
thought "I wish someone could give me a happy ending"

Buffy excused herself to go to bed. She left Duncan and Anna looking
at each other with that look. The look that says I would die for you.
The look that says we belong together with every fiber of our being.

Buffy went to the window and laughed out loud, the shade wasn't working
and it wouldn't go down all the way. She thought of Duncan and Annas
story. She looked out at the city and got ready for bed.

She had just settled under the covers. There was a "tap tap" at
the window. She got up confused, was she dreaming? Buffy walked
to the window. She looked out and saw a familiar face. She opened
the window and let Angel in.

He looked at her intently "Its only for tonight, then I have to go"
She smiled softly at him. "Patience" she said to herself. Out loud
she said "I can live with that!" and she fell into his strong embrace.
