“This was the wrong way.” Willow said turning to Xander.
“It was? I thought that this was your street for sure.” He muttered looking around.
It was already getting dark and Willow was getting scared. The day had started off so nicely. She had Xander had been playing in her back yard when he had taken her Barbi and run down the street. She had chased after him for blocks. Now they had no idea where they were. And to make matters worse Xander couldn’t remember where he had dropped her Barbi.
She’d have to kill him later though. Right now they needed to get home. If they could find home.
“I told you we should have gone left.” She replied pushing him.
“Stop pushing me Willow.” He retorted and pushed her back.
Soon the two five year olds were fighting and pulling hair.
“Ouch.”
“Hey that was my foot.”
“Let go of me.”
“I’m telling my dad.”
“What’s going on here?” A deep voice asked.
The two children stopped argueing and looked up.
A very tall dark man was standing over them smiling.
“Get away from us you . . . you big stranger.” Willow shouted backing away.
“Yeah . . . yeah . . . we aren’t supposed to talk to you.” Xander called following his friend in her retreat.
“I won’t hurt you.” The man offered bending down so he could look them in the eye.
“That’s what they said that you would say.” Xander shot back.
“Well, I won’t. Children shouldn’t be out after dark. Especially here. Are you lost?” He said kindly.
Willow looked at him carefully. He was very tall and strong. He didn’t seem like those guys she saw on America’s Most Wanted who stole little kids. She considered asking Xander what he thought, but he was to busy trying to hide behind her.
“A little.” She admitted looking sheepish.
“Would you like me to help you home?” The man asked kindly.
“That would be nice.” Willow said still a little nervous.
“Wills are you crazy? This guy is probably one of those really really bad guys who like kidnaps little kids and keeps them as pets. And if we go with him he’ll kill us and they’ll put our pictures on milkcartons and those things that you get in the mail that say Have You Seen Me? on them.” Xander rambled.
“Xander shut up. It was you who got us into this mess in the first place.” She yelled glaring at him.
“What’s your address and we’ll try to find you house.” The man said gently.
“5-6-9 Rosewood road.” Willow replied slowly as she thought back to what they had taught her in kindergarten.
“I think I saw a Rosewood Road a little ways back that way.”He said smiling.
“I don’t wanna go with him.” Xander said hanging back a little.
“C’mon Xander.” Willow said rolling her eyes and grabbing his collar.
With that she started off after the man.
“What’s your name?” Willow asked after a minute of walking.
“I’m an Angel.” The man replied smirking.
“Wow. I didn’t think I would ever meet a real angel.” she said amazed.
“Yeah right,” Xander mumbled to himself, “He’s probably a demon instead.”
Willow elbowed him hard in the ribs. “Ouch. That hurt.” He cried.
A few more minutes passed and they stood on the walk way that led to Willow’s house.
“Here you go.” The man said pointing.
“Thank you.” Willow answered as she pulled Xander roughly to the door.
“You’re welcome. Be careful next time.” The man called as he waved and walked away.
“I didn’t like that guy at all.” Xander said as Willow knocked on the door and waited for her mother to answer.
Angel watched as the children’s mother came to the door and pulled them inside. He was happy they had made it home okay. Whatever had possessed him to help them he would never know. But it made him feel a little better. Just a little.
Well, with that done he decided it was time to leave the Mouth of Hell and go on to LA.
