Surprise, Surprise Again!

Chapter Two
After a little chat and a semi-celebrational dinner, Cordelia and Xander left for home. She went to bed almost the instant she got home. When Xander came to bed a few minutes later, he put his hand on her stomach. "Good night, little one. Daddy loves you." he kissed his wife and they went to sleep.
A few days later the Harris' were awoken by the doorbell ringing nonstop. It was Willow and Oz back from their honeymoon. "What's this I hear about a surprise?" asked Willow.
"You've already seen Buffy, haven't you?" Xander asked she shook her head yes.
"Well, Cordy is pregnant! We're gonna have a baby." he told them proudly.
"That's great! When are you due?" asked Willow as she gave Cordelia a hug.
"I'm due in July sometime." Cordelia answered before Xander could.
"We'll help paint the nursery and set everything up. This is so cool." said Willow happily. A few minutes later Oz said "Yeah, its wonderful" he was still shocked.
Four Months Later:
"Come on Xander! We've got the sonogram in one hour and we are painting the nursery with everyone tonight." Cordelia said as she woke him.
"Yeah, and tomorrow we leave for my parents in Nevada. Its going to be a busy day. Are you sure you're up to it?" he smiled at his expanding wife.
Later at the Hospital:
"What do you mean there are two of them? We're having twins!" Xander exclaimed as he looked at the screen and saw the two babies.
"It appears that way. You have a boy and a girl" the doctor said with a smile.
"Xander this is great! I've got something I've been wanting to run by you." she told him as she got dressed and ready to leave the hospital.
"Anything!" he said still in shock.
"I want to name our little girl Summer, after Buffy because she is the person who got me to change my ways when we were in High School. Is that okay with you?" She asked him.
"Of course. Wait till Buffy and everyone hears the news!" he smiled.
Later that evening when they reached home, everyone except Giles and Angel were waiting on them. Evidently Giles was soing research and Angel was asleep.
"I hope everyone is ready to work extra hard." said Xander as he led them to the nursery.
"We have another surprise for you." Cordelia told them.
"We already know your pregnant. Just look at your tummy!" teased Buffy.
"Well, guess what? We're having twins! So, now we also have to paint the other room. We need one for a little boy and one for a little girl." Xander told them excitedly.
"Oh, and Buffy we want to name the little girl Summer after you. Because you changed my life." said Cordelia near tears.
"Thank you. I feel so honored." Buffy said with watery eyes.
They got the rooms painted and baby furniture together. "We need to buy another set of everything now." said Xander.
The next morning Xander and Cordelia left for Nevada to see his parent for a few weeks. When they were almost home Cordelia got sick and had Xander pull over. When they pulled back onto the highway the unthinkable happened. A few miles from home, they were hit by a drunk driver! They were immediatley rushed to Sunnydale General Hospital. Cordelia had gone into premature labor.
Xander had a broken leg and a few scratches but was concious enough to call Willow. She got hold of Buffy and everyone else, they all met at the hospital.
When they got to the nurses station they asked for Xanders room. When they got there he was pretty doped up but he knew who they were and was very worried about Cordelia. He kept asking about her and the babies. "I'll go find out" said Giles "If I have to I'll tell them I'm the grandpa." He left to find where Cordelia was.
Giles learned that Cordelia had given birth to a little girl, but was bleeding heavily and going in for a c-section with the little boy. The doctor assured Giles that the little girl was fine, just small. He did express concern for Cordelia though. "She has to live" thought Giles as he walked back to Xanders room. He filled Xander in on everything except Cordelias losing blood. "Xander, you are the proud Daddy of a 4lb 7oz little girl. She is going to be fine, we'll know about the little boy soon."
In a little while, the doctor came into Xanders room. Cordelia had delivered a 4lb 3oz boy. He seemed to be as healthy as his sister. But the news about Cordelia wasn't as good "I'm sorry, but she slipped into a coma shortly after giving birth. We have every hope that she will come out of it alright."
Xander broke down. "I have to see her. I need to talk to her!" "Not yet Xander. You need to rest a little first" Buffy pleaded with him. "No, I need to see her now" Xander argued. The Doctor explained it was best for Cordelia to not have visitors right now.
"Xander we'll all go see the babies first." Buffy told him "Then maybe you can see Cordy." Xander seemed to calm down as they all walked to the nursery.
"I guess I need to name them. They'll be coming home soon." Xander said as he looked through the glass at his children. "I know Cordelia would agree with the names, we've kind of already discussed them. There is Summer Chase Harris" he said pointing to his tiny daughter. "Summer because Cordy wanted her named after Buffy and Chase so that there is always a part of her Mom with her." He then looked at this son "And that little boy is Chance Alexander Harris" he said smiling.
"Why Chance?" asked Willow.
"Because Cordelia always calls them her second chance at life." replied Xander.
"You're calmer now, why don't you go and see if they'll let you see Cordy now. We'll keep an eye on the babies." said Buffy.
"Yeah, we'll keep an eye on them." agreed Willow then she added "By the way you couldn't have chosen better names."
"Okay, I'm going now. But if those babies need me, come and get me." Xander smiled as he waved to his babies and went down the hall.
The doctor agreed to let Xander see Cordelia. When he entered the room he was petrified by all the tubes coming out of her body. He held back his tears took the chair by her bed and grasped her hand in his.
"The babies are fine, Cordelia. I named them the way we planned. Summer Chase and Chance Alexander. They look so much like you, especially Summer. I will tell you about them every chance I have until you can be with us again. You have to wake up soon, Cordelia, because I can't do this alone. They need their Mom and so do I. Please wake up! Please! We love you. All of us. Everyone is here if you need us, because we need you." Xander was crying as he left the room.
