Chapter Five

Xander put Summer in her car seat and went upstairs to get Chance. He gave the baby his pacifier and took him downstairs. He fed him and changed his diaper then he just held him. "Hey, little guy, are you feeling better now?" he looked at the babys smiling face.

The phone rang at 7:15. It was Cordelia. She wanted to check on the babies. She would get to come home tomorrow. Xander explained the whole night with the babies to her. He was so glad she was coming home.

A few hours later, Xanders door bell rang. "Thank goodness, the babies are awake!" He thought as he answered it. It was Buffy and Willow.

"What are you guys doing here?" He asked as they pushed him aside to to get to the babies. "Oh, we just wanted to drop by. We brought gifts!" Willow told him. "Chance, come to Aunt Willow." she said as she picked him up.

"And you can come to Aunt Buffy" said Buffy as she picked up Summer.

"The bag by the door has some outfits and stuff for these little ones " Buffy told Xander as she sat down with the baby.

"Okay. Thanks. Did you know that Cordy is coming home tomorrow?" he asked them.

"No, we didn't." replied Willow.

"Well, she is!" said Xander happily.

"That's great news!" they both replied.

"What time is she being discharged?" asked Buffy.

"Around 11:00. Why?" asked Xander.

"Because, I can babysit for you while you pick her up." Buffy explained.

"Do you want to help Will?" asked Xander.

"I would love to, but I have to work tomorrow. I will come by to see Cordy when I get off though." Willow told him.

Buffy and Willow left Xander and went to their homes. Buffy found Angel on the phone when she got there. He sounded like he was arranging to meet someone. She gave him the who-are-you- on-the-phone-with? look. He held up one finger to gesture for her to wait.

"Okay, then you'll be here at 8:30 tonight?" he said into the phone. "Thanks, see you then". He hung up the phone and began to speak, Buffy interrupted "Who was that?"

"It was the adoption agency. They might have found a baby for us. But the parents want to meet us first." Angel was still in shock, they had not told anyone that they had looked into adoption. And he was afraid to get excited about the baby, for himself and Buffy.

"The adoption agency has already met us." said Buffy unsure. She was also afraid of rejection.

"No, the parents of this baby are teenagers. They want to meet us, before they decide to give us their baby." explained Angel to Buffy. "They know they can't keep their baby and want to give it a good home. They are coming at 8:30. We should go and get something to cook."

He then added "Do you want to tell anyone?"

"No, not until we know for sure. I'll go get something for dinner" said Buffy deep in thought. She kissed him as she left.

Buffy absentmindedly shopped for lasagna ingredients at the store. She went home to cook and she and Angel talked about the twins and how cute they were. She really wanted this baby! Maybe it would work out.

Meanwhile at Xanders:

Both babies were crying and Xander did not know what to do. They didn't seem hungry or tired or dirty. They didn't want to be held and take pacifiers. After a few minutes of this he called Willow. "Please come over!" he said as soon as she picked up the phone.

"I'll be there in a minute!" she told him as she got her stuff to go.

Willow knocked on the door at Xanders. He yelled "Just come in!" She found him with two crying babies. She picked up Summer "Whats wrong sweetie?" she cooed softly. Summer soon fell asleep in Willows arms. She lay her in her bassinet. Then she picked up Chance walking and cooing to him softly, he too soon fell asleep. Xander smiled thnakfully at her and brought her a coke.

They sat down,"Thanks, Willow" he told her.

"Thats what friends and Aunt Willow's are for" she said as she sipped her coke. "You look like you haven't slept in forever" she told him.

"I haven't, it feels like" he answered her.

"Go take a nap. I'll listen for the babies. I'll call Oz, later we're going to dinner with his parents." Willow told him.

Angel and Buffys house:

Buffy and Angel were both in a panic running around searching for the right thing to wear, and making sure the dinner was perfect. They finally settled on everyday clothes, Angel in jeans with a black shirt and Buffy in a skirt and sweater. At 8:20 the doorbell rang.

"Are you ready, Angel?" she asked as she went to answer the door.

"Ready as I'll ever be!" he answered.

When Buffy answered the door she was a little shocked. She had expected a teenager but this girl looked twelve. "Come on in." she told the couple at her door.

She ushered them to the living room and told them to take a seat. "Yes, please come in. Would you like something to drink?" asked Angel being ever so polite.

"Yes, please." answered the girl sounding nervous.

"What would you like?" asked Angel. "Milk would be fine, if you have it." she said as she sat down on the couch next to her boyfriend.

"Oh. My name is Buffy and thats my husband Angel" Buffy told them as she looked towards the kitchen.

"I'm Brooke and this is Tim. How old are you and Angel?" asked Brooke.

"I'm 21 and he is 23" Buffy told a small lie. "How old are you two?"

"I'm 14 and his is 16" explained Brooke. Angel walked in with the milk.

They talked a little longer and went to the dining room to eat. Brooke talked about her life in Chicago. She was staying with relatives in Sunnydale.

"How did you pick us?" asked Angel

"We read your file. We decided we wanted to meet you just to make sure who we are giving our little boy too. We just found the babys a boy. We want what is best for him. We think you two are it. We want you to raise our baby. If you want to" said Brooke emotionally.

Tim spoke "We agree, we want you to have the baby."

"Thank you so much. We will raise him as if he were our own blood. Thank you!" replied Buffy excitedly near tears.

"Yes, thank you" said Angel as he shook Tims hand.

"We'll have the papers drawn up" said Brook as she and Tim got up to leave.

"The baby is due in 6 weeks, we'll call when I go into labor. I might want to see you again before then, is that okay?"Brooke asked them as they left.

"Of course, here is our phone number here and my work phone." said Buffy as she handed her a slip of paper.

"Buffy, we are going to get a baby!" Angel said as he picked his wife up off the floor in a huge hug! "Lets call everyone now!"

"No, lets wait until Cordy is home tomorrow. We'll tell them all then!" Buffy told him as he put her down. She was so happy!

Buffy went to Xanders the next morning. The house was a mess! Xander had a baby in each arm. He told her "thanks" as he went out the door to pickup Cordelia.

When Xander and Cordelia got home, Buffy hugged her and told her how happy she was she was home. "By the way, I called a group meeting here at 8:00 tonight. Angel and I have a big surprise!" she told them smiling.

"Okay!" said Cordelia as she bent to pick up her daughter. "Mommy's home" she said softly "And I'm not leaving again!"

The baby looked at her mother and smiled. Buffy left the family alone. Eventually they all ended up on the couch asleep. Cordelia's head rested on Xanders shoulder while she held Summer. Chance was in his daddys arms.

Buffy and Angel arrived at 7:30 to Xanders. They woke up the happy family.

Giles, Willow and Oz soon arrived. Buffy stood up to make her announcement. Angel held her hand. "We have some news, We went to an adoption agency and we are going to get a baby in about six weeks!" she told everyone excitedly.

"Thats excellent!" said Xander and Cordy together.

"Wonderful!" said Willow and Oz. Giles said "Good for you!"

Everyone talked and laughed and decided it had been an exciting day and it was time to go home. Angel and Buffy did a few quick sweeps and went home. "Everyone is completely happy!" Buffy told Angel as they went home.

"I told you everything would work out for us" Angel said and bent down to kiss her.

Everyone was happy! At least for now!
