VERY Interesting history!!: http://www.nysm.nysed.gov/albany/dead.html

Established on October 7, 1844, the Albany Rural Cemetery is one of the most beautiful historic cemeteries in upstate New York. Its 467 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include the burial plots of many distinguished national and local dignitaries, including President Chester A Arthur. The Albany Rural Cemetery contains large collection of tombs and monuments by well known sculptors and remains from 18th century graveyards removed from downtown Albany. The lodge and chapel were designed in 1882 and 1884 by Robert W Gibson and the superintendent's house designed 1899 by Marcus T Reynolds. I hope you enjoy this site and take time to visit the Albany Rural Cemetery, it is especially beautiful in the fall. Yet, in the spring it is wonderful as the flowers bloom through out the Cemetery. This is not a place to go to be alone, there are always people wandering around, jogging, walking with dogs and baby strollers. The area locals enjoy it as much as the visitors. It is wonderfully maintained and during the warmer months you will often come across the caretakers painting the iron fences and making repairs.
