Design: The UD4L is an aerospace capable dropship and tactical transport that is able of lifting heavy payloads up to 16,000 kg It is able to attain orbit under its own power from unprepared landing sites because of its vertical take-off (VTAL) capability, which makes it more flexible than other craft. It can also operate as a close-support gunship by using its own internal gun and deploying weapons pods and hardpoints for rockets and missiles.
Airframe: The cockpit and mounts for the lift engines are forward of the payload bay. To the aft is a raised tail assembly on which the ramrocket engines and control surfaces are mounted. The payload bay is flanked by the tri-skid undercarriage to the sides and aft.
Payload Bay: The deck ramp can comfortably carry a fully-crewed M577 Armored Personnel Carrier with its turret stowed. Once inside, latches automatically extend to hold cargo in place when the deck is raised. To the aft is a step gantry which can be lowered to allow the crew access. Three seats are available in the forward section of the bay for passengers and additional crew.
