Welcome to Guam

USS Kitty Hawk departed Yokosuka, Japan on April 11, 2000 and spent six days at sea with only a handful of the carrier airwing aboard. The rest of the airwing was in Guam conducting exercises. Kitty Hawk arrived on April 17th to pick up the remaining airwing, and the crew enjoyed three days of funfilled adventure on America's western-most territory.

Here I am relaxing on the white sandy beaches on Tumon Bay. It was truley a beautiful day here. The weather and the water were both very warm and inviting.

One thing about a tropical island, you're always guarranteed a great view underwater. In Guam, if you take half-eaten chicken or rib bones into the water with you, the fish will come up to you and eat the remains right out of your hands. That was very exciting.

This memorial honors those who fought and died so Guam could have a future free from tyranny. It reflects the three phases of Guam through World War II. First there was the Japanese invasion, then the Japanese occupation, and finally the American liberation of Guam.
