Welcome to Hong Kong, The People's Republic of China

USS Kitty Hawk departed Pattaya, Thailand on May 17 and took part in Exercise Cobra Gold 2000, then departed the area and headed for Hong Kong. We spent nine days at sea before dropping anchor in Hong Kong harbor on May 26. On May 30, Kitty Hawk departed Hong Kong and headed for home, arriving in Yokosuka, Japan on June 5.

Almost everywhere you look in Hong Kong, you will see very tall buildings of unique design. I know...every city has tall buildings. But Hong Kong successfully blends the buildings with the natural landscape in the background.

The Exposition Center on Hong Kong Harbor was the very site where the British government handed the territory over to the chinese.

While in Hong Kong, we caught a ferry to Macau, which is a peninsula on mainland China. There are many temples around the island and we visited a couple of them.

This wall is all that remains of the Cathedral of St. Paul in Macau. Macau used to belong to the Portugese for over 400 years before being handed over to the Chinese. So you can find a lot of European influence in the city.
