Welcome to Thailand

USS Kitty Hawk transited for three days from Singapore northward and arrived in Pattaya, Thailand on May 13. We had four more days of fun and relaxation before beginning Exercise Cobra Gold 2000.

I've done plenty of snorkeling in my life, so now I thought it was time to take the diving to the next level. I spent the day learning how to SCUBA dive. That was very exciting and I definitely want to do that again someday.

The official animals of Thailand are the elephants and you can see them everywhere. You can't go to Thailand and not ride an elephant. It's not like riding a horse, but it is definitely a unique experience.

These elephants are extremely hungry. They will literally maul you over for your bananas. Forget feeding them a piece at a time. Just give them the whole bunch and you'll make a friend for life. After all, elephants never forget.
