Sonic's Sci-Fi Haven

UFO

Okay, Trek is sci-fi but it's such a big universe that it deserved a page... er... 4 pages, of its own. So this is where I'm gonna plug a few of my other science fiction loves.

Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Sonic And Sci-fi

When I was a young hatchling, just reading on my own, I discovered a short story called "The Fun They Had", written by a man named Isaac Asimov. It was the most amazing story: two kids find a book in an attic and are intrigued because the words stay the same each time they open it up -- and the book is made of "paper". These two kids are also intrigued by the idea of many children meeting at a central building to attend school with human teachers. This is a novel concept to the kids, whose schooling consists of a personal computer Teacher at home. (In case anyone's wondering, that story was written in 1954, before the big computer explosion, and can be found in several books, including The Best of Isaac Asimov.)

I was already watching Trek on TV, but hadn't realized that there were books like that too. Oh, to be so young! From that point on, I was hooked (pun intended).

Now that I've bored you to tears with my personal tale, I'd like to hear about yours. How did you get into the wonderful world of science fiction? Tell me and I'll post the results. Please check the appropriate box in case I'm not familiar with your entry.    :^)

I have a few sci-fi loves, some of which don't get nearly enough credit. Take a peek at them, especially if you've never seen them before.
