The World of Two Moons. A place of great beauty and mystery--where the only limits are those set by the imagination. Cutter Kinseeker - TamCutter became leader of the tribe as a teenager following the death of his chief-father, Bearclaw. Initially a young visionary whose seat-of-the-pants style of leadership was formed by a rapid succession of extraordinary events, Cutter is now confident and decisive in most matters. He has the flashes of temper and humor of his father, but his ability to get himself centered and clear comes from his mother, Joyleaf. Nowadays he perceives the simple Way of the Wolfriders as being threatened by a shrinking habitat and by a marked increase in usage of the 'old powers' by such gifted elves. When confronted with a new situation (an almost daily occurrence for him in his perpetually tumultuous reign), Cutter will consult the tribe, then take his best guess as to how to proceed. In his immediate family, Cutter finds both his greatest strength and his Achilles heel. Parted from them, he feels not quite whole and will move heaven and earth to be reunited with them. Although his devotion to the Wolfriders has only increased over the years, he is not quite as democratic and people-pleasing as in his youth. This causes occasional friction with other assertive tribe members. His lifemate, Leetah, can usually wrap him around her little finger. Skywise - Fahr:Orphaned at birth by the death of his parents, Shale and Eyes-High (see Hidden Years #5), Skywise is our resident Peter Pan. While his tribe has aged some five hundred years (see Graphic Novel #8), to Skywise less than twenty years have passed since the first quest began. Alone among the Wolfriders to choose immortality, he is feeling his first 'outsider' twinges. Skywise knows that he now has an eternity in which to exercise his most outstanding trait: curiosity. Cheerful, witty, devil-may-care most of the time, Skywise has a dreamy, thoughtful side when he contemplates the stars. Though he has made remarkably scientific observations about how the universe works, he still thinks it's all 'magic' because it's more fun that way. Once a little older than Cutter, Skywise served as advisor, confidant, and close friend to his chief. Now, due to their substantial age difference reversal, Skywise is still Cutter's cherished sidekick and advisor, but more like a clever younger brother. Skywise has yet to experience Recognition and doesn't relish the prospect, for true parenthood represents a bit more responsibility than he fancies. (One child of his produced outside of Recognition, Yun, is known. (see Hidden Years #2.) Others are highly likely.) His closest bond is with Cutter with whom he shares soul names. Strongbow - Wyl If political parties existed in the holt, Strongbow would be the staunchest of Republicans. An arch (archer?) conservative, his adherence to 'The Way' is as straight and narrow as one of his arrows. Being a tribal elder, Strongbow doesn't care for his younger chief's new-fangled ideas and always challenges any procedure he thinks will disrupt the natural order. He's stubborn, not stupid, and knows in his heart that change is part of nature. Damned if he'll kowtow to it like some panty-waist, though! He's one of the most intensely monogamous Wolfriders, deeply devoted to his Recognized lifemate, Moonshade. The fact that he communicates with her solely by sending is a sign of his great desire for intimacy. To Strongbow, words just muddy things up. If he talks at all, he's either addressing a non-sender or he's so emotionally overwhelmed he can't get his thoughts straight. However, Strongbow is not the cliche dark, silent type who can't express his feelings. He has one son, Dart, of whom he is very proud, and shows it. As a rule, Strongbow hates humans, fire, lies, waste, extravagance, and folly, which means he detests Winnowill and Rayek. Though he himself is one of the more strongly gifted Wolfriders, he mistrusts overuse of the old powers and thinks all elves would be better off if they'd just follow 'The Way.' First of his tribe within memory to kill a fellow elf, Strongbow agonized over the deed until he received forgiveness from the slain one's spirit. Strongbow has a thoroughly good heart encased in somewhat thorny wrappings. Ember :Gamin, pixie, sprite, mix these in a pot with a dash of hellion and you've got the spicy brew that is Ember. Just recently initiated into the pleasures of joining by Mender, the Sun Folk's healer, Ember is at that delicious teenage stage where all of the joys and none of the burdens of young adulthood are hers. Always an upbeat, cocky, and playful kid, she's 'Daddy's girl' all the way. Ember is destined to be chief of the Wolfriders someday and tries to emulate Cutter in many ways. She tends, however, to be thoughtless and careless at times, which causes the Wolfriders some inconvenience. Ember has never been shy about speaking her mind, even when she hasn't had that much to say. She can be goofy and distracting during council meetings, causing the Wolfriders to take her less than seriously, which is a mistake. Surprisingly, Ember has a high degree of deductive reasoning. But she tosses off her observations so casually that it's easy to overlook the wealth of logic hidden in that apparent bubble-brain. Without realizing it, she's a good detective and puzzle-solver. Her sense of humor leans toward the mischievous, and she's every bit as hot-tempered as Cutter. In fact, father/daughter clashes are commonplace. Ember is like a yearling wolf testing just how far she can push the alpha male. She knows her aggression is OK, that the whole tribe, including Cutter, subtly encourages it for it is part of her preparation for leadership. There is not, however, a mean bone in Ember's body. She would not willingly injure anyone, physically or emotionally, and she would go to the limit to defend loved ones from harm. Ember always sounds a positive note, even when things look blackest. MoonshadeIn Moonshade's case, artistic temperament tends to leave the accent on 'temper.' At her worst, somewhat timid and prejudiced, at her best, a no-nonsense practical type, she's easily peeved by others' unpredictable behavior. Her mind is set on certain 'oughts' and 'givens,' which leaves her free to concentrate on her work. Watch out, women's libbers! Moonshade gladly defers to Strongbow on most issues and usually sticks up for her lifemate, even when he's wrong. As far as she's concerned, that's part of 'The Way.' Though she makes no overt effort to be charming, she is naturally womanly, sexy, and mysterious. The type of clothing and accessories she designs are an ideal blend of utility and esthetics. Each outfit suits its wearer perfectly which means, despite her guarded air, Moonshade 'groks' her tribefolk well. During peaceful times her more decorative flair emerges. But she will not dress her tribe only for vanity's sake, exposing them to danger with garish colors that stand out in the woods. That's not the Way. As a mother she has tended to stay in the background, letting Dart and Strongbow work things out between them. She's not easy to get close to, but she's true blue, unshakeable in her convictions, and always rises to the occasion. Leetah :Born in the idyllic, Sun Village, Leetah's rather smug and safe existence was permanently altered by Recognition with Cutter. Sharing her lifemate's rugged lifestyle has changed her from a coquettish, willful princess to a conscientious and loving spiritual leader. While her potent healing powers are often in demand, given the Wolfriders' dangerous environment, she has learned not to overdo it as she once did with her own Sun Folk. Still exploring the unknown limits and moral ramifications of her powers, Leetah helps when asked or when it's a matter of life and death. Otherwise she checks her natural compassion with the knowledge that a certain amount of hardship builds strength and character. She is an intensely sexual presence, flirtatious and sensuous, every inch the classic elfin nymph who dances by moonlight. Retaining much of the gracious and refined manner of the immortal Sun Folk, she's accepted 'The Way' and become a peaceful warrior, knowing that her beloved Cutter and tribe are mortal by choice.
