Pegasus was a winged horse tamed by Bellerophon with the help of a magic bridle from Athene. He was created from the blood spilled from the head of Medusa. When Bellerophon tried to ride Pegasus into the heavens, he was attacked by a messenger from Zeus, fell from Pegasus and was killed. Pegasus traveled on to the heavens alone where he became a constellation and a servant of Zeus. It is said that a kick from Pegasus's hoof created the fountain of poetic inspirition.
Pegasus, the winged horse, was the son of Neptune and Medusa. As I've already said, he sprang from the head of Medusa when it dropped into the sea after her head was severed by Perseus. Pegasus appears again and again throughout mythology. Pegasus became the thundering horse of Zeus, which is why he appears among the stars.
In modern times, Pegasus is seen as the symbol for the immortality of the soul, and as the carrier and protector that guards the spirit in its journeys into the stars. Pegasus is the power behind the creative spirit in all of us. He is the symbol of inspiration, and of the beauty we bring into our lives and the lives of others.
Pegasus live in temperate and subtropical forests. Naturally you know they are winged steeds that often serve the cause of good. They are very intelligent and often shy and wild, not easily tamed. If they choose a human master, they will serve faithfully for the rest of his/her life. They are thoroughbred, which resembles an Arabian horse (although slightly larger) with two large feathered wings. They are usually white in color, but some have been seen to be black or brown. They must be ridden bareback, for they do not accept saddles.
Pegasus are cunning in battle, often luring large opponents into tight spaces where upon will, they will viciously fight with teeth and their hooves. Against creatures of their own size, they use their superior speed to outrun them.
Pegasi (the plural form of Pegasus) are egg-laying mammals. They can detect good or evil at a fairly long range, knowing the true intentions of anyone that draws near.
Pegasi feed on grass, fruits, and other plants. They live for about 40 years. Some believe there are "Greater Pegasi", usually the leader of the herd. These can only be tamed by the noblest of heart, and a hero of his own people. These are more powerful than the normal pegasi and live for about 100 years.
If you feel drawn to Pegasus, then he is calling you to create. In music....in song....in poetry....in writings....in art....in any form you choose....but create and share your expressions of beauty.
