The 1001 Story Group Stories

A while ago, Gus collected together a varied group of J/C authors with the intent of writing a story collection based on a concept borrowed from 1001 Nights . But the writers, given that they are by nature competitive and compulsively unable *not* to egg one another on to greater misdeeds, have issued and answered a number of other challenges. It is those which are collected here.

It's done!!
The Voyager 1001 Stories Project is finished!

  • Burning Desire

Not a challenge exactly, but a group story where we all took turns taking a whack of disposing of Seven. Some are quite....inspiring.

  • The "Night" Episode Challenge

This challenge was to re-write the Janeway/Chakotay scene in her cabin in the style of some famous author. Some of responses are quite unexpected.

  • The Sappy Song Challenge

Blame Mary W. and YCD for this one. The challenge was to pick the sappiest love song you could find and write a story based on it. There's a bit of everything here: silliness, angst, hope--you name it.

  • Just One Kiss Challenge

A twist on the sappy song challenge. This one is to get Janeway and Chakotay to kiss. Bonus points if you incorporated song lyrics, bonus points of it wasn't in an alternate universe and still more bonus points of you kept the plot anywhere close to canon!

  • The "Janeway-in-a-Box" Challenge

Yes, here they are "dead Janeway" (with one or two dead Chakotays thrown in for good measure) stories--and not all of them are what you might expect…

  • The Captain Proton Challenge

Bride of Chaotica and the whole Captain Proton scenario were too good to pass up. Stories based on both here.

  • The Coffee Challenge

This time the challenge was to write a story which begins with the line: "I have coffee with your mum, she seems so glad to see me."

  • The Story Title Challenge

A new challenge. Write a story with the title:"Kathryn, for the very last time." And guess what? not all of them are called that!

  • The Janeway Birthday Challenge

Proposed by m.c.moose: "May 20th is Janeway's birthday. Shall we try for a bout of birthday stories? I would hesitate to suggest such a challenge to most J/C groups, because I know what treacly dregs it would invite. But with this group, I'd expect the stories to be unexpected and amazing (judging from past results)."

  • The Straight Shooter Challenge

Christina's challenge: write a story wherein one of the characters takes a "direct approach" to romance.

  • The Beatles Song Challenge

Another Mary Wiecek challenge:Write a story based on a Beatles song.Come on…how can you resist such a thing? A short, sappy story based on a Beatles song…or a long angsty one…whatever…

  • The Final Episode Challenge

Another challenge from our own Trek pollyanna, Mary W.:
It's been AGES since we had a challenge. I kind of miss them, so I came up with one. Here's the scenario: You're sitting on your couch, just minding your own business (whatever that may be), and the phone rings. You answer it. It's Brannon Braga! Carefully, deliberately, you bite back all the scathing things you'd like to say to him, including the snide 'How's Jeri?' because, naturally, you're curious. What could he possibly want from you? He says, "So [insert your name here], we've read all of your fabulous fanfics on the internet and would like your help writing Voyager's final episode." Well, he rambles on and on, and you negotiate, and eventually a deal is hammered out. He's had a change of heart. He wants to put a short J/C scene in the final episode to reward the J/C ers for their patience and congeniality. And he wants you, [insert your name here], to write it. What would you write? What J/C scene would leave you happy when all is said and done? You'll have to keep it clean enough for television, of course, and it will have to be a relatively short scene, because the final episode is going to be packed full of stuff. Assume that Voyager gets home and that there's trouble for the Maquis, but Janeway stands by her crew and convinced Starfleet to drop all charges. Or don't assume that - but keep the scenario close to something you think TPTB might do. The idea is to have a collection of alternate J/C scenes for all of us to fall back on if, God forbid, TPTB decide to do nothing at all with J/C in the final episode.
