How to Lose

Daniel Axum gets into a fight with Cady the coach of the armadillo in underground fighting, which leads to much property damage. Rey Trueno sees how good Daniel is at fighting and says he will cover the damages. He tries to convince Daniel to join the underground fighting league and gives him his card but Daniel throws it away.

When Daniel arrives at home his mother reminds him about the child support check that is late since his ex-wife Gina has called about it. While at work Daniel's parole officer checks up on him because he was told that Daniel was drinking at a tavern and that's a violation of his parole. The officer says that next time he will be reported.

Later Daniel looks through the garbage can that he threw Rey Trueno's card into and Rey finds in the act and gives him another card.

At the underground fighting area the armadillo prepares for his latest match. Cady his coach doesn't give him much information on his opponent like he usually does and Armadillo gets upset. In the ring ready to fight Armadillo is Daniel. They begin their fight and Armadillo dominates leaving Daniel bloody and lying on the floor while Armadillo yells out to his coach "Jus' watch -- I'm gonna kill this loser!"

Comments: Another dreary issue of the Thunderbolts for the second issue of the revamp. Much of the same more this issue with more fights, and more of Daniel's mother complaining to him. At least the cover seems to have improved over last month, I guess marvel hopes to bring in a few extra readers over these kind of covers, that will a couple months at least.

Daniel doesn't seem quite as bad as he did last issue so he's a bit more of a sympathetic character; I can see why he ends up in the underground fighting. Still if he's short on money and hasn't pay his child support payments he shouldn't be showing up at the tavern all the time. I suppose its one of his weaknesses and its showing him in a bad light so he will join the underground fighting but that means I don't particularly care for him. I haven't really warmed up any of the characters in the book but I just couldn't build up any hate for them either. If the title had been with the regular Thunderbolts characters and was written badly I probably be feel at least a little upset but with the title now I'm rather apathetic.
